The Boys' Star Laz Alonso knows exactly how he wants The Boys' run to end

As a dedicated fan of “The Boys” since its inception, I have eagerly anticipated each new season with bated breath, immersing myself in the gritty world of superheroes and their corrupt handlers. The news that the show was always intended to end with a fifth and final season came as a bittersweet pill to swallow, knowing that the conclusion of this gripping narrative would mark the end of an era for me.

As a long-time fan of “The Boys,” I’ve been eagerly following the show since its inception on Amazon Prime. Over the years, I’ve watched with great interest as Eric Kripke, the brilliant showrunner, brought the gritty and dark world of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic series to life. And let me tell you, he did an exceptional job!

According to Deadline’s report from Happy Sad Confused, Laz Alonso, the actor who plays Mother’s Milk on The Boys, tried (but apparently unsuccessfully) to propose a big-screen finale for the series, intending to leave the fifth season with a cliffhanger ending.

“Alonso suggested making the final episode of season 5 an exciting cliffhanger. He also mentioned announcing a film we’ve been producing since the start of the series around that time. However, Kripke has a knack for finding ways to avoid such predicaments.”

As a dedicated fan, I’ve noticed Deadline playing coyly with the idea of a “Dawn of the Seven” film being the final chapter for “The Boys.” During interviews about wrapping up the series, they would joke about this supposed movie-within-a-movie. However, Antony Starr, who brings Homelander to life so brilliantly, has clarified that five seasons were always the plan according to showrunner Eric Kripke’s original intention.

In simpler terms, Barr expressed her opinion that ending a project on a weak note is disappointing, as she has experienced the negative consequences firsthand. She emphasized the importance of finishing strongly and leaving a good impression.

As a long-time fan of engaging and thought-provoking television shows, I’ve often found myself pondering whether “The Boys” should conclude with a movie instead of continuing as a series. However, before delving into this debate, I’d like to share my perspective based on my extensive experience with media consumption.

Shows like “Ray Donovan” and “Entourage” are examples of TV series that concluded with a final movie. Therefore, it’s feasible for “The Boys” to receive approval for a cinematic finale as well.

In an alternate universe, if “The Boys” chose to conclude Season 5 with a cliffhanger and Amazon MGM together with Sony gave the go-ahead to produce a film to wrap up the main storyline, certain steps would need to be taken. These would include assessing the potential audience interest and estimating the prospective box office earnings.

Although it may be preferable for the series to conclude with a longer-than-usual finale episode in the last season to wrap up the story effectively.
