She’s been through so much, and while she’s definitely done some terrible things, Colby Minifie plays her with such nuance that you can’t help but sympathize. That’s why I actually found myself rooting for her when she injected herself with Compound V at the end of season four! It was such a relief to see her potentially save herself from Homelander’s terrifying purge. Honestly, I was quietly cheering for her!

We know Ashley successfully became a supe, but the brief look at her changing body at the end of season 4 hinted that her powers would come with significant challenges beyond simple abilities like flying or shooting lasers. Season 2 of Gen V confirmed this when it showed Sister Sage taking over as CEO of Vought and darkly suggesting Ashley was unable to perform the job due to issues with her transformation.

Okay, so the trailer for The Boys Season 5… wow. They showed Ashley Barrett, and she looks good. Seriously, healthier and way more put-together than we’ve ever seen her. But the biggest thing? It looks like she’s got a new gig. We only see a glimpse, but she’s standing in front of a sign for the White House! It’s pretty clear she’s now President Calhoun’s press secretary. That’s a major power move, and I’m really curious to see how that plays out.

As a huge fan of The Boys, I’m already bracing myself for the chaos now that Ashley’s been put in charge of PR! Knowing how loyal she is to Vought, I fully expect her to spin everything to make Supes look like heroes, trash Starlight’s reputation, and basically try to convince everyone that those awful camps for Homelander’s enemies are somehow justified. It’s going to be a wild ride, and honestly, that’s exactly what I love about this show – the way it holds a mirror up to everything messed up in the world.

I’m really puzzled by what’s going on with Ashley in The Boys. Between seasons of Gen V and The Boys, Ashley might get her powers under control and reappear publicly. Alternatively, she could be developing a split personality, switching between her normal self (as seen in the season 5 trailer) and a transformed state unexpectedly. Either way, her public appearances could be quite a show.

What Ashley’s Return In The Boys Season 5 Says About Homelander’s Regime

When season 5 of The Boys starts, Ashley becoming White House press secretary will all but confirm that Homelander is truly running the country, even if Calhoun is technically President. Homelander somewhat trusts Ashley – or at least believes she’s too afraid to go against him – so putting her in charge of Vought’s public messaging is a logical move.

Homelander now has total control over the U.S., and it wouldn’t be shocking to see his allies in top government positions – like Black Noir as Secretary of Defense and The Deep as Secretary of State. The real question is how much Homelander can truly trust Ashley. She’s secretly worked against him before, for example, by hiding the evidence that Queen Maeve survived, and a public meltdown on her part would be a PR disaster.

In season 5 of The Boys, Homelander chose Ashley to be his spokesperson, but he might later regret trusting her.
