In Season 5, Episode 3 of The Boys, a key character reappeared, and their return is essential to understanding a mysterious object central to Homelander’s story. The final season of the Amazon Prime Video series is already delivering big reveals and shocking deaths, and we can expect even more secrets to come to light, especially concerning V-One. As revealed in Season 2 of Gen V, V-One is the original, successful formula for Compound V, granting users biological immortality.
The latest trailer for The Boys Season 5 revealed that Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito), the former CEO of Vought, will be returning. In the trailer, he’s shown explaining the origins of V-One to Starlight, Frenchie, Kimiko, Mother’s Milk, and Hughie.

In Season 2 of Gen V, Stan Edgar assisted Marie Moreau and her friends in escaping Vikor, offering them shelter in a secure underground bunker. The show revealed Edgar is secretly working to regain control of Vought, believing Homelander is a failure and hoping to use Marie Moreau to overthrow him.

So, it turns out Marie and Homelander both came out of the same secret Vought program – Project Odessa, which was basically their attempt to make super-powered beings even more powerful, like, seriously god-like. After Marie and her group busted out of Edgar’s underground facility in Gen V Season 2, it looks like Edgar’s back to where he started, scrambling to find anyone who’ll help him stop Homelander. It’s a real setback for him, and it makes you wonder who he’ll turn to next.
It looks like The Boys will be teaming up with some unexpected, short-term allies. Marie may have given Starlight the location of Stan Edgar’s secret bunker, which would explain why Annie is shown in the trailer trying to get him to share everything he knows about V-One.

This meeting is key because Stan Edgar is expected to share vital information with Starlight and her team about V-One, and potentially where to locate the remaining doses. This matters because the Season 5 trailer for The Boys showed Homelander is also searching for V-One, hoping to achieve immortality and protect himself from Butcher’s virus that kills supes.

With Homelander now actively pursuing V-One, the stakes are even higher. If he gets the formula before anyone else, he could become truly invincible, making the final battle against Starlight and her team a terrifying fight for survival.
The Boys are making a risky move by partnering with someone as questionable as Stan Edgar. A recent scene showing Zoe Neuman using her powers alongside them hints that Edgar might even sacrifice Starlight to protect his granddaughter.
Zoe might still be seeking revenge on Butcher for the death of her mother, Andrea Neuman, as seen in Season 4 of The Boys. She could potentially take hostages as a way to force Butcher to come out of hiding.

Everything We Know About V-One So Far In The Boys & Gen V

V-One is a light blue serum that gives people incredible superpowers and makes them immortal, turning them into even stronger Supes. Some Supes who have taken V-One without negative effects include Stormfront, Soldier Boy (who survived a virus meant to kill Supes in Season 5, Episode 2 of The Boys), Bombsight, and Torpedo. It’s different from Compound V, another serum with similar effects.
Season 2 of Gen V revealed that an earlier version of the V-One compound was flawed and used in Vought’s secret Project Odessa. Thomas Godolkin (played by Ethan Slater) recklessly injected himself with this unstable version, but instead of dying like the other test subjects, his body surprisingly changed. He developed the powers to control people like puppets and became immortal, ultimately leading to the shocking reveal of Dean Cipher’s true identity in Gen V Season 2.

Godolkin used his connection to the V-One to secretly control events, including Cipher and Marie. He tricked Marie into healing him, hoping to regain his immortal body. This was all part of his disturbing plan to eliminate those he deemed weak and create a race of superpowered beings, a plan fueled by the dark changes the V-One inflicted on him.
As a huge fan of The Boys, I’m really hyped for Season 5! It looks like we’re finally going to learn a lot more about V-One, and honestly, seeing Homelander with that stuff in his system? That’s terrifying – it could be his downfall, and everyone else’s too. I’m also fascinated by Edgar. I have a feeling he knows where the remaining V-One is hidden, and while he might help the Boys, knowing him, he’s just looking out for himself, so we can’t trust him as far as we can throw him.
