The Boy and the Heron confirms Netflix release date

As a seasoned gamer who’s been through the rollercoaster of anime-related anticipation, I must say, the announcement of “The Boy and the Heron” release date on Netflix has sent waves of excitement coursing through my veins! I remember the days when we had to wait months (or even years) for a new Miyazaki masterpiece, often fueling our passion with mere rumors and speculations. But now, here we are, just two months after its initial release in Japan, and we’re about to embark on this surreal adventure together!

The movie titled “The Boy and the Heron” has set its launch date on Netflix, making it accessible worldwide to viewers – with the exceptions of the United States and Japan.

Hayao Miyazaki’s newest film is set to debut on the 7th of October, approximately two months following its initial release for purchase or rental.

Originating from Japan in July, the critically acclaimed animated film serves as a flexible interpretation of the 1937 novel “How Do You Live?” penned by Genzaburō Yoshino.

The narrative unfolds around Mahito Maki, a 10-year-old boy, who tragically loses his mother to a hospital fire during the tumultuous times of World War II.

Mahito, deeply saddened by his father’s remarriage to his sister-in-law, finds solace in an unusual friendship with a chatty grey heron. Together, they embark on a fantastical journey.

After the film’s impressive performance at the box office and receiving praise from critics, any speculation about Miyazaki retiring once more has been dispelled by his production partner, Toshio Suzuki of Studio Ghibli.

Last October, Suzuki stated to Libération that his mind is always preoccupied with his upcoming projects, adding that he’s impossible to halt in this regard. In truth, I’ve resigned myself to his relentless creativity.

Moments ago, we were chatting, and he surprised me with a question. He asked, “Oh, by the way, could you tell me what my last movie was about? I seem to have forgotten.” And Suzuki went on.

He began discussing a fresh project, so I decided not to interrupt. Since he’s engaged in work, I can’t consider retiring, he mentioned. I believe he’ll continue till he turns 90, and I plan to stick by his side throughout this journey.

The animated film “The Boy and the Heron” will be streamable worldwide, excluding the U.S. and Japan, starting on October 7th through Netflix.
