The Block’s Eliza reveals the one question she hates being asked: ‘It’s just patronising’
As a follower of Eliza Paschke, I completely understand and empathize with her feelings about being constantly questioned about her relationship status. It seems that many people, despite probably meaning well, find it intrusive to ask such personal questions repeatedly. The question “Are you still single?” or its variations can be tiresome and patronizing, especially when one is doing quite fabulously on their own terms.
She’s the former star of The Block who has never been shy about her romantic misadventures.
However, Eliza Paschke has disclosed the question concerning her romantic affairs she finds most irritating – a query many people might recognize as familiar.
As a passionate devotee pouring my thoughts into this, I can honestly say that in a daily column for 9Honey, the remarkable 38-year-old individual confessed she grows weary of being queried about her single status. However, it seems fate has a way of making this question pop up at least once each day.
The fan favorite commented, “These phrases can also be rephrased as ‘Have you tied the knot already?’ or ‘Found your life partner yet?’ or even ‘Still unattached, huh?'”
Apart from her admission, it was shocking to many that at the age of 38, she’s still single.
Though acknowledging that those asking the question likely have good intentions, Eliza admitted it felt repetitive, condescending, and frustrating to hear it frequently.
To be honest, I’ve learned to handle that pesky, intrusive query with a dash of humor. It helps keep things light!
She frequently replies humorously, saying something like, “I guess I’ll be an old cat lady at 90, living all by myself with nine felines.” This is her way of expressing it.
In other places, Eliza asserted her independence and labeled her current lifestyle as ‘wonderful’, adding that she pursues her desires at her own pace.
She pointed out that there are multiple factors why some individuals remain unattached, with a significant one being their personal decision to do so. Furthermore, she emphasized that she is currently living her most fulfilling life.
Following Eliza’s announcement in March about transforming her less-than-ideal dating experiences into a regular feature on the 9honey website, here I am, eagerly sharing my journey as a dedicated follower.
And her former boss was one of the first to congratulate her in the comments.
‘Finally your wisdom is recorded for future generations Lize!’ wrote Hamish Blake.
Plenty of fans also weighed in with their own congratulations.
One follower expressed, ‘I identify greatly with Eliza!’ Steph Ottavio, a fellow cast member from ‘Block’, commented, ‘I’m incredibly proud of you!’
In the 2023 season of The Block competition, Eliza and her sister Liberty finished as runners-up, earning an impressive prize money of $1,050,000. They exceeded their $3,250,000 minimum requirement by a significant margin.
The television personality has been quite transparent regarding her long-term professional association with Andy Lee, having served as his personal assistant for a decade alongside Hamish Blake on the radio.
But intimate details about The Block star’s personal relationship with Lee were revealed last year.
Back in 2022, it was reported that Eliza was cohabiting with her boss, Andy Lee, and his partner, Rebecca Harding – quite the dramatic situation!
As a devoted admirer, I can tell you that Eliza seems to be playing down her past involvement with Hamish and Andy on The Block, as suggested by recent reports which have resurfaced an old Hamish & Andy podcast recording.
Last summer’s re-aired television program featured the renowned radio personalities playing a practical joke on Rebecca, age 32, by posing as an insurance firm over the phone.
In our conversation on the phone, I assumed the role of an insurance agent discussing details about a recent accident that took place at the house shared by me and Rebecca.
In simpler terms, Andy asked if you, Andrew Lee, and Eliza are the residents of the house, and he wanted to confirm if Paschke is also a resident. The incident occurred at your location.
