The Block’s Dani Wales shares heartbreaking post about losing her firstborn at just ten days old before falling pregnant with her second child

Dani Wales from The Block recently shared a very sad story about the loss of her newborn baby, who passed away at only ten days old.

Dani and fellow Block star Dan Reilly’s daughter Billie died in December 2024.

It was such a heartwarming moment last November when they announced they were expecting another baby. It’s been almost a year since losing Billie, and this new arrival is a beautiful testament to life and love. As someone who always advocates for finding joy even in difficult times, this news truly touched my heart.

Including a photo of her growing baby bump, Dani reflected on the couple’s painful loss.

Honestly, the past year has been incredibly tough, but I’m finally starting to feel like I’m moving forward. I wouldn’t say I’m over my grief, but I’m definitely not as overwhelmed by it as I was before. It’s a slow process, but I’m noticing a real shift, and it feels good.

Dani shared on Facebook on Sunday that she’s starting 2026 feeling refreshed, with a clear sense of who she is and what she wants – though she admits she doesn’t feel that way every single day.

‘[After] a horrifically painful year, I’m so relieved [it’s] now behind me. 

‘Showing up for others was hard — but showing up for myself was even harder at times.

She explained that knowing her daughter was going to experience so many milestones in 2025 made the current year feel particularly heavy.

Even though many new experiences still lie ahead, things feel a bit more manageable now. At least for today, that is.

She shared that she’s starting the year with a clear mind, open to all experiences – both happy and sad. She understands that grief and joy can exist together and is prepared to embrace them both.

This year feels like a fresh start in many ways. I’m finishing some things and beginning others – new projects, goals, adventures, and meeting new people. Best of all, I have my wonderful partner by my side through it all.

Friends and followers were quick to send messages of support.

‘Dani, you are a warrior. Looking forward to reading all your wonderful news this year,’ one wrote.

“I’m so sorry for everything you’ve gone through; no family should ever experience that. I’m really excited to see you thrive this year,” someone else offered with congratulations.

Oh my gosh, Dani and Dan are just incredible! It completely melted my heart to read that someone said precious Billie will always be with them, and especially now that they’re having another little one! It’s just… perfect. I’m so happy for them both!

The reality star shared a photo of herself walking her dogs by the water with a message for her fans.

Dani showed off her baby bump in a black bikini top and cut-off denim shorts. 

Dan and Dani created Billie’s Besties to remember their daughter and support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne. The foundation raises money to help the NICU provide care for babies.

The couple got married in a small, private ceremony on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria in 2018. They first became well-known in 2012 when they appeared on the TV show, The Block.
