The Block’s much-loved Open Day has been axed for another year.
Channel Nine has stopped a popular tradition that used to attract large crowds to the renovation show.
The Daylesford property viewings were designed to let regular Australians see the high-end homes before they went up for auction.
Still, producers have again shut the gates — and the decision has left die-hard fans reeling.
A source told New Idea that the show’s creators are thrilled with how far the contestants have come and want to make sure their accomplishments are recognized.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m hearing that Nine and Domain are taking a different approach to showcasing properties this time around. Instead of the traditional open house that anyone can attend, they’re planning an exclusive event in October. It’ll be invite-only, geared towards industry professionals like agents and other property experts – a really focused way to get valuable feedback and buzz!

The move has been slammed by insiders who say the show risks ‘alienating’ its loyal fanbase.
People watch the show regularly, but they’re often unable to visit the featured homes themselves, which is frustrating,” an industry insider told the Daily Mail.
‘It feels like the show has forgotten who put it on the map in the first place.’
New Idea reports that Daylesford’s basic facilities and limited infrastructure raised safety worries, which was a major reason for concern.
Filmmakers worried the small town wouldn’t be able to handle the large influx of people, leading to parking problems, too many visitors, and strain on things like hospitals and shops.
However, a source revealed the change is also about how the show appears to the public. They said the network is trying to establish ‘The Block’ as a prestigious property event, and limiting attendance to professionals and investors creates a more exclusive image.
But the ordinary fans – the mums, the tradies, the families – they’re the ones who miss out.’
For many, it’s a move that’s taken the heart out of The Block.

One longtime viewer said Open Day was always the best part of the show – it was amazing to see the hard work and dedication of the contestants firsthand.
‘Now it’s just another TV show where the viewers are kept at arm’s length.’
The show’s cancellation follows Judge Shaynna Blaze’s strong response to online trolls. She used Instagram to condemn what she described as ‘horrible and offensive’ comments directed at the show and its participants.
‘A few people have asked me, ‘How do I cope with this?’ It’s not about coping, it’s about how it’s addressed,’ Shaynna explained.
‘It’s not that it doesn’t hurt me, of course it does, and I just say this: move on and reflect.’
The Block continues Monday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine.
