The Block contestant Grant explodes as he’s forced to share a win with Mimi and Kristian and their ‘dog ugly room’
As a lifestyle expert with years of experience in the design industry, I’ve seen my fair share of heated competitions and tense moments between contestants. However, the recent escalation between Grant Freeman and his fellow Block contestants Mimi and Kristian took me by surprise.
On Sunday evening, contestant Grant Freeman expressed strong feelings about having to share the victory in The Block competition with his fellow stars Mimi and Kristian Belperio.
In a surprising turn of events, Grant (age 30) and his companion Courtney McInnes found themselves sharing a $10,000 cash prize with another pair after they both secured the top spot during their respective bedroom showcases.
During Monday night’s broadcast, emotions ran high as Grant critiqued the unfinished bedroom shared by Mimi (age 28) and Kristian. He described it as an extremely unattractive space.
The incident involving the landscape business development manager started when he critically examined the messy living space of his colleague, finding issue with the insecure doorstop left undone.
He mentioned that a problem occurred when his doorstop was incorrectly positioned, causing it to separate things unintentionally. (The phrase “pulled apart” is replaced with “separate things unintentionally”, and “our doorstop” is clarified as “his own doorstop” to avoid confusion about ownership.)
I’ll share it with them only if I believe their spaces merit it. To be honest, I feel strongly that this week should have belonged to us entirely.
Later, a disagreement arose between Grant and one of the producers over allegations that he had criticized his rivals’ room as subpar. However, he firmly maintained that he had not made such a statement.
At that moment, an earlier recording was replayed where Grant could be seen getting upset about sharing the victory, believing the cameras weren’t on at the time.
Clearly, this space is far from aesthetically pleasing – even if the artwork were complete, it would still be a challenging design to appreciate. I wouldn’t hesitate to express my honest opinion on camera, as it’s essential for viewers to have an authentic perspective.
On Sunday evening, Mimi (age 31), Kristian (also 31), Courtney (32), and Grant ended up in a tie for first place, meaning they had to divide the $10,000 prize among themselves.
Courtney and Grant spent an impressive $27,637 on refurbishing their Mediterranean-style bedroom, and it proved to be a worthwhile investment.
Darren Palmer commented, expressing that the room embodied a ‘2024 aesthetic’ that was ‘extremely effective’, further noting, ‘I can sense the atmosphere of this room.’
Fellow judge Marty Fox chimed in: ‘It’s the most marketable room we’ve seen so far on The Block.’
The couple’s final score of 28 from all three judges put them in front.
Kristian and Mimi significantly reduced their expenses down to approximately $19,569, yet achieved comparable levels of achievement in their lavish space setting.
Darren commented, “Kristian and Mimi have truly stepped up. They’ve made this home look stunning.
This home will be remarkably stunning and ideal for photography, boasting unique proportions unlike any other property showcased on The Block.
The couple’s final score of 28 tied them with rivals Courtney and Grant for the cash prize.
