The BLAST Slam 5 will happen in China and it’s the first of many

The BLAST Slam tournament is headed to China! Their journey begins in Chengdu, with additional tournaments in the region set to be unveiled shortly.

The Blast Slam 5 tournament is making its way to the mainland China, a location that currently hosts numerous Dota 2 competitions. From December 5th to 7th, spectators will have the opportunity to witness some of the world’s top teams compete at the Wuliangye Chengdu Performing Arts Centre.

The location has the capacity to accommodate as many as 12,000 guests, making it the site for the inaugural BLAST tournament ever held within the country. According to their official announcement, the Tournament Organizer signed a three-year agreement with Chengdu Television and Media Company. Their objective is to schedule additional tournaments together in the upcoming period.

As the Asian Champions League, Clavision Master Series, and BLAST Slam 5 approach, the Chinese esports scene is brimming with significant tournaments. When asked about their upcoming event in Chengdu, James Woollard, Director of Market Development at BLAST, expressed that entering the thriving and expanding Chinese esports and gaming market – one of BLAST’s fastest-growing audience segments – is a major priority.

We’re thrilled to debut BLAST’s inaugural event on the Chinese mainland in Chengdu – a city known for its vibrant culture, modern infrastructure, long history of live entertainment, and burgeoning fame in gaming and esports. Stepping into China’s rapidly expanding esports and gaming market, one of our fastest-growing audience segments, is a significant move. By teaming up with Chengdu Television and Media Company, we aim to blend our global reputation for competitive entertainment with local know-how, creating an exceptional experience. The Phoenix Mountain Sports Park Arena will serve as an outstanding venue for us this December, marking the beginning of a multi-year partnership and promising unforgettable esports milestones.

Despite Chinese teams not winning trophies overseas in recent times, their growth is undeniable. Valve’s decision to invite Yakutou Brothers instead of OG Esports can be seen as a testament to the potential of the region. For fans, this move might serve as a catalyst to rekindle local interest and boost Dota 2’s impressive viewership once again.

Which teams are confirmed for BLAST Slam 5 in Chengdu, China?

Following the Gaimin Gladiators incident, five elite players departed from their team without finding a suitable organization capable of enhancing any of the current top-tier teams. Yet, this situation’s implications won’t be fully understood until The International 2025 comes to an end. Furthermore, when BLAST Slam 4 concludes, emerging talents may secure direct invitations to China as well.

In spite of the uncertainties, the Tournament Organizer has indeed affirmed a select group of organizations anticipated to participate in Chengdu.

  • Tundra Esports
  • HEROIC
  • Team Spirit
  • Team Falcons
  • Parivision
  • Team Liquid

While an invitation doesn’t automatically ensure a place on the LAN stage, much like in Singapore where BLAST’s new format requires every team to compete in a Group Stage in order to qualify for the LAN event.
