The Black Phone 2 adds The Nun star Demián Bichir to its cast

As a seasoned horror enthusiast with decades of chilling encounters under my belt, I can confidently say that the addition of Demián Bichir to the cast of The Black Phone 2 sends shivers down my spine. This man has a knack for bringing terror to life, from his unnerving portrayal of Father Burke in The Nun to his bone-chilling performance as Mark Kane in Let the Right One In.

Fresh information about “The Black Phone 2” has come to light, and horror enthusiasts are bound to get thrilled! It’s been confirmed that Academy-nominated actor Demián Bichir, recognized for his roles in “Let the Right One In” and “The Nun”, is now part of the star-studded cast for this eagerly awaited sequel from Universal and Blumhouse. However, his specific role in the movie remains a mystery for now.

The second installment, titled The Black Phone 2, follows the events of the original supernatural horror movie The Black Phone. This initial film revolves around a teenage boy who falls victim to a notorious serial killer, “The Grabber,” and is kept prisoner. The director of the first film, Scott Derrickson, and his co-writer C. Robert Cargill, will once again be at the helm for this sequel, sharing responsibilities in its scriptwriting.

Details about The Black Phone 2’s plot remain secret for now, but we do have information about who else will join Bichir in the cast. Ethan Hawke (The Grabber), Mason Thames (Finney), Madeleine McGraw (Gwen), Jeremy Davies (Terrence), and Miguel Mora (Robin) are all set to reprise their roles from the original film for the sequel. Moreover, Derrickson, Cargill, and Jason Blum have been signed on as producers, while Joe Hill will serve as an executive producer. Hill also penned the short story that inspired the first movie.

As a gamer excitedly awaiting the next installment of “The Black Phone,” I was originally geared up for a June 27, 2025, premiere. However, in May 2024, Universal threw me a curveball and decided to move the release date back by four months, setting it for October 17, 2025 instead. Now, another Blumhouse production, “M3GAN 2.0,” has snatched my anticipated release slot, leaving me with an extended wait until I can immerse myself in the next chapter of this chilling saga.

Bichir is in no way new to the horror world. He previously starred in Alien: Covenant as Sergeant Lope. He also played the role of Father Burke in The Nun and Detective Goodman in The Grudge. Additionally, he portrayed Mark Kane in the short-lived horror series Let the Right One In. His most recent project is the war drama film Without Blood, which had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 8.
