The best scene in Sinners was a last-minute addition
Actress Wunmi Mosaku, who plays a sinner in the movie, revealed that the captivating, dreamlike musical scene was not part of the script at first.
A horror film about vampires, penned and helmed by Ryan Coogler of “Black Panther” fame, takes place in 1932 but delivers a powerful emotional impact when character Sammie (Miles Caton) summons spirits from the past and future during an unanticipated scene that pays homage to Black music heritage.
Mosaku, the actress portraying Annie, revealed that the one-shot scene was incorporated into the script merely a few days prior to the table reading.

She shared with The Hollywood Reporter that the script evolved, from when she auditioned to the rehearsal with the entire cast.
She expressed her admiration for Coogler, saying, “Two days before the read-through, I received a script that included both past and future ancestors in the scene, and it sent shivers down my spine. That additional touch left me utterly amazed, thinking, ‘Wow, this man is truly brilliant!’
Mosaku went on to say, “Ryan made an exceptional script even better – he truly raised the bar.
At the rehearsal, his performance was incredibly moving, causing everyone present to shed tears, particularly as it was the first time they heard Miles singing.
As a gamer, I’d rephrase it like this: In this film, I step into the shoes of Michael B Jordan, portraying not just one, but two characters – Elijah ‘Smoke’ Moore and Elias ‘Stack’ Moore, who are twins. These brothers make their way back to our old stomping grounds in the Mississippi Delta, with a dream to establish a juke joint.
The situation deteriorates significantly when the twins are caught up in a series of strange, supernatural events, as it becomes apparent that vampires are transforming individuals, even members of the Ku Klux Klan.
In addition to its cast of sinners, the series boasts Hailee Steinfeld portraying Mary, Jack O’Donnell as the Irish bloodsucker Remmick, Delroy Lindo as Delta Slim, and Jayme Lawson as the vocalist Pearline.
Sinners is out now in cinemas.
