The best movie of the year has finally arrived on streaming

As a seasoned gamer and cinephile who has seen his fair share of blockbusters, I must say that this year has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride for movie enthusiasts like myself! With numerous delays, surprises, underperformers, and overachievers, the box office landscape has been as unpredictable as a game of ‘Among Us’ in the final round.

2024 has been quite a remarkable year for movie premieres. Despite several films being postponed until 2025, 2024 managed to make a strong impact at the box office. Familiar franchises reclaimed their dominance, while some unexpectedly outperformed predictions, even catching seasoned box office analysts off guard. Regrettably, some movies didn’t do as well as anticipated, while others surpassed expectations dramatically.

Among the unexpected hits, Godzilla vs Kong: The New Empire stood out by satisfying audiences and surpassing its franchise’s previous best with earnings over half a billion dollars. Similarly, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice surpassed expectations, raking in over $400 million ahead of the spooky season. Furthermore, it’s important to mention Inside Out 2 and the pairing of Deadpool and Wolverine, both of which grossed over a billion dollars, enabling Disney to claim ownership of the two highest-grossing films of the year.

Indeed, numerous outstanding films have emerged this year, and at long last, the cream of the crop has premiered on streaming platforms, outshining the rest in yet another triumphant performance.

Deadpool and Wolverine makes streaming debut on Disney Plus (and quickly tops the chart!)

The long-awaited pairing of Deadpool and Wolverine has officially premiered on Disney Plus, swiftly asserting its impact. This new release hit the streamer last week and soared to the top of its rankings in just a single day. Was there ever any doubt it would? Not really, but it’s delightful for movie enthusiasts who celebrated its impressive box office performance to see this success now translated into streaming dominance.

Without mincing words, the term “extraordinary” barely does justice to what the film featuring Deadpool and Wolverine achieved at the box office. This cinematic marvel breathed new life into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following a rather subdued year for the franchise, a period marked by some of its poorest box office performances ever. The movie managed this feat by harkening back to the franchise’s golden days, raking in over $1.3 billion globally and shattering records as the highest-grossing R-rated film in history.

The best movie of the year has finally arrived on streaming

Not only does the film’s revival show in its box office earnings, but “Deadpool and Wolverine” stands out as one of the finest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) productions in recent years. It is undoubtedly among the top contenders for the best film of 2024, possibly even holding the title. This film manages to be both unabashedly entertaining and surprisingly touching at times, making it a success across all aspects. Given the numerous areas where it needed to shine, this achievement is quite remarkable.

The film marks the third installment of the Deadpool series and introduces Deadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), following Marvel’s acquisition of the character’s rights post-Disney/Fox merger. Simultaneously, it features the first MCU appearance of Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman, who is known for his portrayal as the iconic, reluctant X-Men member. This film thus serves as the initial substantial reference to the X-Men within the franchise. Although the Marvel’s X-Men characters are yet to fully join the MCU, this movie signifies an important stepping stone in their future integration.

One term that encapsulates the movie featuring Deadpool and Wolverine is “entertaining.” This film offers a thrilling, exaggerated, absurd, unconventional, daring, audacious, wild (and at times quite brutal) entertainment experience. It surpassed anticipations, accomplishing its goals and more, leaving audiences spellbound throughout the summer. The movie also served as a poignant farewell to the classic Fox X-Men series while ushering in an exhilarating new phase for Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

If you haven’t watched the movie yet, what are you waiting for?! It’s streaming on Disney Plus now!
