A beloved film from the 1980s is now available on a new streaming service. The movie gained a dedicated following over the years and remains popular, with many memorable lines that people still repeat today.
Though it first came out in 1987, *The Princess Bride* wasn’t initially a hit in theaters. It gained a dedicated following over the years, and that lasting popularity has proven worthwhile. Fans will be happy to know that this beloved fantasy film will be available to stream on Hulu starting November 1st.
Both *The Princess Bride* and another popular film will be streaming on Hulu starting in November.
The 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, directed by Rob Reiner and based on William Goldman’s novel, featured a star-studded cast including Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, and André the Giant. The movie tells the story of Westley, a daring farmhand, as he embarks on a quest to rescue his beloved Princess Buttercup and overcome the villains threatening the magical kingdom of Florin.
Despite receiving great reviews when it first came out, *The Princess Bride* wasn’t a huge hit in theaters, earning just $30.9 million on a $16 million budget. However, it gradually gained a dedicated following and became a beloved classic, now considered one of director Rob Reiner’s best films. Today, it boasts impressive scores on Rotten Tomatoes, with 96% positive reviews from critics and 94% from audiences.
The movie is filled with memorable and humorous lines, including classics like “Inconceivable!”, “Have fun storming the castle!”, “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means,” “Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die,” and the simple, yet powerful, “As you wish.”
Will The Princess Bride Ever Get a Sequel?
Someone asked me about continuing the story, and Reiner told me this really interesting thing. Apparently, Bill Goldman, the guy who wrote *The Princess Bride* – both the book and the movie – actually *started* writing a sequel he called *Buttercup’s Baby*. He got about three chapters in, but then decided it just wasn’t working and abandoned the whole idea. He didn’t want to pursue it any further.
He explained that Bill is a close friend, someone he really cares about. Bill once told him that their first meeting was the highlight of his career, and he even wanted that sentiment inscribed on his tombstone. Because of that special connection, he would never do anything Bill wouldn’t approve of, and he wants to honor Bill’s wishes by leaving things as they are.
The Princess Bride debuts on Hulu on Nov. 1.
