The best and worst lounges at Disney World
As a seasoned Disney World enthusiast with countless trips under my belt, I can confidently say that the Tune-In Lounge at Hollywood Studios is undoubtedly my top pick among all lounges in the four parks. The nostalgic 50’s vibe, coupled with the friendly and experienced bartenders, makes it a perfect spot for a laid-back drink after a long day of exploring the magic. Plus, the ample seating is ideal for larger groups, making it a crowd pleaser!
At Disney World, there are some things you can always expect. You’ll likely spend considerable time queuing, items tend to cost roughly thrice as much as their counterparts elsewhere, and you might find yourself craving a refreshing drink.
Depending on the particular park you are visiting, you have options. Bring your coins, as adult beverages are pricey in Disney World. A beer is typically $9.50-$12.50, depending on flavor. A mixed drink is typically $15-$19. Most places offer you to make your drink a double for a small upcharge. With these types of prices, choosing your destination becomes very important. I have visited every lounge in the four theme parks and will share my opinions below.
Best Overall Lounge: Tune-In Lounge (Hollywood Studios)
Located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Tune-In Lounge is my choice for the best overall lounge in Disney World. It is the lounge area that is connected to the 50’s Prime Time Cafe.
This lounge stands out in a unique way, offering not one but two distinct features: first, a charming retro ambiance with vintage black-and-white TVs, and secondly, cozy 1950’s-inspired living room nooks. Moreover, the skilled bartenders here seem to be long-time residents of this lounge.
As a seasoned traveler who has visited numerous lounges across the globe, I must say that this particular spot stands out as one of my favorites for people-watching. The brisk to-go drink service adds an energetic vibe to the lounge, making it a dynamic and engaging environment. Although the lounge doesn’t serve food, its proximity to a restaurant is a convenient bonus.
Runner-up: Nomad Lounge (Animal Kingdom)
Worst Overall Lounge: Oga’s Cantina
Let me present an unconventional perspective that Star Wars enthusiasts might find controversial, but bear with me. At first glance, it appeared to be a slam dunk. The theme was impressive and I’ve consistently enjoyed the service. However, that’s where my praises end.
Upon your arrival, they’ll promptly inform you about the time restriction in place. During my last visit, it was 30 minutes, but this could vary. After seating you, the rest of the experience tends to unfold naturally.
That spot is always bustling, and I’ve rarely managed to snag a comfortable chair. Once, we ended up perched on stools at a communal table with six strangers. The most awkward experience was when my wife and I were seated in a booth with two other couples we didn’t know. Here’s hoping you enjoy striking up conversations!
As a gamer, I’ve sampled every drink here, but let’s just say they don’t exactly quench my thirst. The real kicker though? That ear-splitting “space techno” that seems to be engineered for the sole purpose of pushing one’s sanity to its limit.
I find it hard to envision myself working in such a place. The constant haste and persistent background music don’t seem to provide the tranquil atmosphere that a lounge should offer – one of serenity and relaxation.
Runner-up: Restaurantosaurus Lounge (Animal Kingdom)
