Though two popular characters from the first Batman movie and the The Penguin series won’t be appearing in The Batman: Part 2, this could actually be a good thing. Director Matt Reeves has finished the script, and filming with Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne is scheduled to begin in Spring 2026. The movie is currently set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
DC Studios has confirmed that four characters will be back for the Elseworlds project: Robert Pattinson as Batman, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. While fans are eager to find out who the villain will be in The Batman 2 and who will play them, Scarlett Johansson, known for her role in Black Widow, has joined the project in an undisclosed role.
There’s disappointing news for fans of The Batman universe. It appears two key actors from the films, often referred to as the ‘ReevesVerse,’ won’t be returning for the next installment.
Zoe Kravitz – Selina Kyle/Catwoman

Unfortunately, it seems Zoe Kravitz won’t be returning as Catwoman in the sequel to The Batman. The first film ended with her character, Selina Kyle, leaving Gotham and sharing a kiss with Batman, which left fans wondering if she’d be back. Now, it appears that storyline won’t be continued.
Batman and Catwoman formed a strong connection while solving mysteries together, which led Catwoman to become more of a hero. However, their relationship may take a backseat in the next movie, as Scarlett Johansson is joining the cast and could become a new romantic partner for Batman.
Currently, Selina seems busy in Bludhaven, possibly planning to team up with someone else who isn’t appearing in The Batman 2.
Cristin Millioti – Sofia Falcone

In HBO’s The Penguin, Cristin Millioti debuted as Sofia Falcone, the daughter of Carmine Falcone and Selina Kyle’s half-sister. She quickly became a formidable opponent to Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot, ultimately ending up back in Arkham Asylum.
It looks like Sofia Falcone and Selina Kyle (Catwoman) might team up in future DC films connected to The Batman universe. Alyson Hannigan, known for How I Met Your Mother, recently told TopMob she thinks the two characters could be a powerful and destructive force together, suggesting they’d be a formidable duo.
Fans will have to wait for that character crossover. Director Matt Reeves told Josh Horowitz of Happy Sad Confused that Millie Alcock won’t be in The Batman 2, similar to Zoë Kravitz. Reeves was already very far along in the script writing process before The Penguin spin-off was planned.
Okay, so here’s the deal: don’t expect to see Zoë Kravitz or Anya Taylor-Joy in The Batman 2. While that’s a bummer, director Matt Reeves is already building a fantastic cast and plans to start filming in Spring 2026, with the movie currently slated for release on October 1, 2027. It sounds like he’s going for something really special with this one.
Why Catwoman/Sofia Falcone HBO Spin-Off Needs to Happen After The Batman 2
Since Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman is currently in Bludhaven and Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone is imprisoned in Arkham, neither is likely to play a major role in the upcoming 2027 sequel – they both have solid alibis.
It’s still possible Matt Reeves could include a surprise appearance by either character to hint at their future roles in an HBO series or a potential The Batman 3. There’s a good reason to believe we might see Sofia Falcone, especially since rumors suggest Doctor Arkham will be the villain, which would likely make her family’s estate an important location in the film.
Although it’s unclear what’s next for The Penguin, Matt Reeves has said he’s still planning more TV series based on The Batman. Catwoman and Sofia Falcone seem like great choices for these shows, given Catwoman’s existing fanbase and the positive reception to Sofia’s introduction in the HBO series – Zoë Millioti even won an Emmy for her portrayal.
As a huge fan of these Gotham stories, I’m really hoping we get to see more of Carmine Falcone’s daughters after The Penguin series. I’ve heard whispers that The Batman 2 might set up their own spin-off, maybe involving a breakout at Arkham Asylum. Honestly, I’d love it if whatever trouble they cause – whether it’s in Gotham or Bludhaven – could tie into a potential The Batman 3. It would be amazing to see that whole world expand!
