A popular rumor suggests a well-known actor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe turned down a role in Matt Reeves’ upcoming sequel to The Batman. The film has already cast two other Marvel stars, Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan. Details about the plot are currently secret, but filming is expected to start in Spring 2026.
Stellan Skarsgård reportedly rejected The Batman 2 role
On the recent episode of John Rocha’s podcast, The Hot Mic, industry insider Jeff Sneider reported that Stellan Skarsgård turned down a role as Harvey Dent’s father, Christopher Dent, in the upcoming Batman sequel. Skarsgård is known for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he played a key supporting character, Dr. Erik Selvig, in the first two Thor movies.
No new actor has been announced for the role of Christopher Dent. Brad Pitt was previously considered, but he wasn’t able to take the part due to his existing schedule.
So, I’ve been hearing whispers that Alexander Skarsgård passed on a part in The Batman Part II, and it’s interesting because just a month ago, a reporter mentioned they still had one major role to fill. He hinted it was for an older character, and a lot of people think it could be Harvey Dent’s dad. It’s all speculation right now, but it’s got me thinking about where they’re taking the story!
Okay, so things are still up in the air with who’s playing Harvey Dent – as of right now, they haven’t announced an actor. But the buzz is really strong that Sebastian Stan, you know, the guy from Marvel, is going to be taking on the role of the former DA who goes bad. And get this – Scarlett Johansson is also in the movie, though her part was a secret for a while, and now people are saying she’ll be playing Harvey’s wife, Gilda. It’s shaping up to be a really interesting cast!
The next Batman movie, currently titled The Batman Part II, is set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Director Matt Reeves, who also co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin, announced last year that filming would likely start in late April or early May.
