The Batman 2 Reportedly Adds a Surprise Villain Fans Weren’t Expecting

A new report suggests that the next Batman movie might have an unexpected villain. Although it’s still unclear who Robert Pattinson’s Batman will fight in the upcoming sequel, fans have been speculating about several possibilities. Popular choices include classic DC characters like Mr. Freeze, Hush, and Two-Face, and we might find out who it is in the 2027 film.

Fans know that Matt Reeves has thoroughly researched the Batman comics to find a villain who hasn’t been prominently featured on screen before. Considering the many famous Batman adversaries over the years, the possibilities are numerous.

Jeff Sneider, a well-known insider in the entertainment industry, recently reported that the villain in The Batman 2 might be a surprise. In his latest newsletter, he stated that sources tell him the main villain in Matt Reeves’ 2027 sequel will be Doctor Arkham.

I was completely blown away when I heard Sneider mention Scarlett Johansson joining the new Batman movie! He hinted she might be a villain, and it got me thinking. A lot of fans, myself included, are hoping she’ll play Phantasm, that incredible character from Mask of the Phantasm. The rumor is she might even have a male villain working alongside her, which sounds amazing!

Many viewers remember that Arkham family and their mental institution played a big part in the first Batman film. It was revealed that Bruce Wayne’s mother was secretly a member of the Arkham family, who founded the famous hospital and prison.

Details about The Batman 2 are still limited, but the movie—from director Matt Reeves and writer Mattson Tomlin—is scheduled to come out on October 1, 2027. Filming is anticipated to begin next year, and Robert Pattinson, Colin Farrell, and Andy Serkis are all set to reprise their roles.

Who Is Doctor Arkham from DC Comics? 

Doctor Arkham isn’t as well-known as iconic Batman villains like the Joker, Poison Ivy, or Two-Face. Many fans would likely name a lot of other villains before even considering him as the main threat in The Batman 2. But despite his lower profile, he’s still a compelling character who deserves to be featured in a movie.

Doctor Arkham appears in many different ways in the comics. He’s usually portrayed as Jeremiah Arkham, the chief doctor at Arkham Asylum – a character some fans believe was hinted at in The Batman movie. After years of working with dangerous criminals, Jeremiah begins to show signs of his own mental instability.

Interestingly, this character sometimes develops into the fearsome crime lord Black Mask, operating his criminal organization from within the infamous Arkham Asylum.

There’s an alternate version of the character Doctor Arkham simply known as Doctor Arkham. This version, from DC’s Dark Universe, is a past incarnation of Batman who became obsessed with human experimentation, transforming his patients into monstrous creatures.

The Doctor Arkham character expected in The Batman 2 might explore his history with human experimentation, distancing him from any connection to the Batman mythos.
