The Ark season 2, episode 4 review, "The Other You": What happened to Brice?

As a seasoned fan of The Ark, I must say that episode 4 of season 2, “The Other You,” was a rollercoaster ride of emotions and mind-boggling twists! It’s not every day you encounter alternate realities, missing persons, and parallel universe love stories.

In the latest installment of season 2’s “The Ark”, titled “The Other You”, we momentarily pause repairing Ark-1. Instead, we delve into the enigma surrounding Brice’s disappearance. The episode continues seamlessly from where the last one ended, offering a thrilling new mystery to unravel.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from The Ark season 2, episode 4, “The Other You”

The episode swiftly delves into the enigma without delay. Not only does Brice vanish before everyone’s shocked gaze, but we witness Cat resurface within a cryo-chamber. Hang on, Cat? Aren’t they supposed to be deceased?

Indeed, you’re correct. In the world we know, she exists. However, it’s been discovered that this Cat hails from another dimension. Interestingly, Kelly deduces that Brice is alive in Cat’s reality. When they exited Faster-Than-Light travel, it appears that two different instances of Ark-1 encountered each other.

Let’s refer to our familiar universe as Version 1.0 of Ark, and the alternative reality as Version 2.0. Alternate realities sure are fascinating!

Cats and Brices enter another realm as their existing counterparts in this world are deceased. It’s intriguing to ponder “alternate realities,” but not merely if Ark-1 hadn’t been struck at the outset of the series. Instead, it explores “alternate realities” had various characters chosen different paths throughout their lives.

Figuring out the situation in The Ark

As a gamer, I’ve got to say, for once let’s all give an ear to Alicia. It’s a refreshing turn of events after the last episode where folks were quick to assume she was dealing with trauma instead of considering her observations might be spot on. Even Trust, who occasionally challenged her, had to concede that her theory about the two divergent realities wasn’t entirely far-fetched.

Certainly, Eva expresses some reservations towards Alicia’s proposal for resetting the timeline to bring Brice back. The thought of living without him is unbearable for her. Moreover, Trust has concerns about losing Cat, but this isn’t the Cat he knows and admires. Additionally, Trust isn’t the person Eva envisioned for herself—it’s a significant mismatch!

In their respective worlds, Alicia continues to explore her own reality while Brice seeks aid regarding Ark 2.0. Upon discovering Garnet and learning they were romantically involved in this universe, Brice sets off to locate Alicia. As she’s not as intellectually gifted as her counterpart from Ark 1.0, Brice must track down an equivalent of Trust who might have the answers. In this universe, Trust possesses Klampkins, but he was the sole person to obtain it, and he’s supposed to remain in cryosleep until a cure is found. Coincidentally, Brice’s arrival proves beneficial because he can offer components for the cure in exchange for help returning home. Naturally, this version of Trust desires his Cat back, so he tirelessly works on finding a solution.

In this scenario, Alicia and an updated version of Trust (version 2.0) successfully resolve a problem. When Trust 2.0 fails to provide directions in their message, Alicia consults the original Trust (version 1.0). Upon receiving advice from Trust 1.0, Alicia instructs everyone to go in the opposite direction. Since both Trust versions tend to agree, this decision makes sense and solves the issue effectively. I appreciate this creative solution!

Deep down, I can’t help but empathize with Trust 1.0 at the end of the episode. In Ark1 2.0, Garnet locates Brice once more. Even though she acknowledges that this isn’t her Brice, she does admit that this encounter allows her to bid farewell. She couldn’t do that earlier because he left for war and became a hero. It was the closure she required. Unfortunately, Trust 1.0 doesn’t receive that closure with Cat. She vanishes again, leaving behind her belongings, which breaks his heart when he cries over them. He’s still grieving over Cat’s death, and this just makes his healing process even harder.

Details from the alternate world that could play a part in The Ark season 2

As a dedicated fan, I find myself reflecting on a recent scene where Spencer pays a visit to Brice, posing a crucial question: did his father reside in this alternate realm? Lo and behold, Brice confirms that Captain Lane was indeed present, and Spencer’s life under his father’s rule was marked by frequent oversight and mistreatment.

Later, we discover a brief interlude involving Strickland 2.0 and an unfamiliar man on Ark 2.0. It turns out they are in a relationship. This new character doesn’t seem familiar, but his counterpart from Ark-1 1.0 is also present. Towards the end of the episode, we see this man when Strickland encounters him. Could there be affection for Strickland? Despite his ongoing search for his daughter, he has had time to mourn the demise of his spouse. Perhaps it’s time for him to find love once more.

In this episode, there’s an adorable interaction between Spencer and Garnet. I find myself rooting for them as a pair, and I can only hope they were paired with the Juno Project. Spencer has transformed into such a collaborative team member, recognizing that Garnet is a superior leader. What I appreciate most is his decision to take a step back, allowing her to excel. However, she still values his insights and respects him, which makes their partnership truly captivating to observe.

In a surprising twist, it was discovered that Kelly didn’t possess command over her extra talents; many others like her in her world do. Cat had granted Kelly control over certain aspects, which could potentially shift things significantly. I’m eager to watch how Kelly uses this power to aid the inhabitants of Ark-1, especially with Maddox’s return promising revenge.

Let’s discuss the tragic battle where Brice 2.0 perished. His sacrifice saved numerous lives, but Kimi wonders if Brice truly existed in our reality, and he strongly affirms that he did not. If he had been here, no one would have died. However, we know Brice possessed Klampkins and deceived us about it. Could it be that Brice was present, showing signs that led to the deaths of many? Perhaps a close associate of Kimi perished in this event? It seems likely that this topic will resurface again.

In this episode of The Ark, we deviated from the primary narrative for an hour, but it was delightfully entertaining. It demonstrates that not all events in The Ark need to be matters of life and death; occasionally, a captivating puzzle is enough to keep us engaged. Plus, Alicia had some great moments in the spotlight.
