The Acolyte's Amandla Stenberg takes to social media to respond to the show cancellation

As a longtime gamer and fan of the Star Wars universe, I must say that hearing about the cancellation of The Acolyte after just one season leaves me feeling rather disheartened. It’s like being halfway through an epic RPG quest only to find out that the developers have pulled the plug on the game!

Viewers find themselves with a blend of emotions following the early termination of “The Acolyte” after only one season, as everyone eagerly watches the cast and creators navigating through the cancellation process.

Previously this week, Lee Jung-Jae expressed his surprise, both personally and otherwise, upon hearing the news. The revelation left me feeling let down and a bit deceived because I wouldn’t get to witness the conclusion of this tale. However, when Amandla Stenberg shared her thoughts for nearly nine minutes on X platform, my curiosity was piqued, and I yearned to listen attentively. Here are some key points from her reflection.

“I’m gonna be transparent”

To listen to the whole video, readers can find it on @cosmic_marvel.

Stenberg does not hold back on how the negativity affected her, saying that “there’s been a rampage of vitriol that we’ve faced since the show was announced” and mentioning “hyper-conservative bigotry and vitriol, prejudice, hatred and hateful language towards us.” While she saw it coming–she is not the only actor to be targeted for her appearance or life choices by more toxic members of the Star Wars fandom–she admits that “It’s not something that you can really understand what it feels like until it’s happening to you.” She decided to honor her “sense of ethics” while experiencing all that this has entailed “by being vocal even within the context of working for Disney and…within the large massive IP that is Star Wars.”

While it was difficult, she used this platform to exhort those watching:

It’s clear to me that the sequence of recent events is heavily influenced by the extreme polarization of our current era, fueled by thought bubbles and automated systems that amplify our prejudices. Let’s strive to examine carefully what we consume as information, a challenge I extend not only to others but also to myself.

“Completely worthwhile for me.”

The star of the show was indomitable, though. While she signed off with “Let’s vote, y’all,” she had a lot more to say to and about the show’s supporters. One thank you went to Lucasfilm for being an “awesome team.” She mentioned that Rain Roberts had “such vision and hope and such a mission for what we were going to continue bringing into the sci-fi universe and into the Star Wars universe.” She credited director Leslye Headland as “one of the best people in the world.”

Apart from nurturing her own love, she also extended it to her fans. She found solace in their creative works like fan art and theories, which she described as “incredibly beautiful, filling my heart with immense joy.” When faced with negativity from the audience, she acknowledged that they were deeply loved and cherished, making this job fulfilling for her and justifying all the difficult aspects of it.

Stenberg said it best with a tribute to the nature of the fans:

I just want to thank everybody who watched it. Thank you for being so loving and supportive and excited and nerdy and awesome.
