The Acolyte: We could have had more of Darth Plagueis in future seasons

As a seasoned Star Wars fan who’s been through the highs and lows of this expansive universe, I must admit, the possibility of more seasons for “The Acolyte” featuring Darth Plagueis is both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. While I appreciate the innovative approach of focusing on new characters, the allure of delving deeper into the enigmatic figure that is Plagueis is undeniable.

Although The Acolyte might be taking a break after this season, it seems there’s a chance for more episodes down the line. As hinted by Manny Jacinto, who’s part of the project, we might delve deeper into Darth Plagueis’s tale in future seasons if they do come to pass.

At a recent San Francisco FanExpo panel on Collider, Jacinto (the actor who portrayed Qimir/The Stranger in the show’s first season), expressed his thoughts that if additional seasons were produced, Plagueis might have had a more significant part in the narrative instead of just making a brief appearance.

He mentioned that there might be more of Plagueis in either the second or third season of the series, but he couldn’t confirm it for certain as they might decide to bring him back later.

In one of the later episodes from the first season, the character made a brief appearance, stirring excitement among fans about potentially seeing more of him in future scenes. Initially glimpsed in “Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith,” Plagueis’s background was delved into further through a James Luceno novel. Although no longer considered part of the official canon, it’s plausible that Leslye Headland might incorporate parts of his origins for TV adaptation.

It remains unclear if Plagueis might reappear in The Acolyte, as no definitive confirmation about the show’s termination has been given by Lucasfilm or Disney. There are rumors that a potential Season 2 may be announced at Star Wars Celebration Japan in April 2025, leaving fans hopeful.

Discussing if Plagues ought to reoccur again is a whole different argument. What set the series apart was the introduction of fresh characters, and this aspect should be maintained. Star Wars shines brightest when it pushes boundaries instead of over-relying on familiar characters from its past.

But there are a lot of Plagueis fans out there. If it makes them happy, that’s fine too.
