The Acolyte star wasn’t shocked by show’s cancellation

As a gamer who’s seen more than my fair share of show cancellations and reboots, I can’t say I’m too taken aback by the news that The Acolyte won’t be returning for a second season. It seems like every other week there’s another fan-favorite series getting the axe in favor of yet another remake or reboot.

The Acolyte star Amandla Stenberg has revealed she wasn’t shocked by the show’s cancellation.

This month, it became clear that Disney+ decided against producing a second season for the Star Wars prequel series.

After the initial two episodes garnered 11.1 million views within their first five days on the streaming platform, setting new records, the show failed to sustain the same level of viewership as it progressed through the series.

On August 28th, in a detailed Instagram Story video, Stenberg, known for her dual roles as Osha and Mae, shared that the harsh prejudice and hostile comments from some fans didn’t shock her by the series’ conclusion.

As a gamer, I’ve gotta level with you all: it wasn’t exactly unexpected news to me. Ever since the idea of this game first dropped, there’s been a torrent of negativity swirling around. It didn’t matter that we were still sketching out the blueprints, people were already ready to pounce.

At that point, we began encountering an intense wave of extremely traditional intolerance and bitter speech, biased hostility, and offensive, abusive language directed at us.

Stenberg continued by expressing gratitude towards Leslye Headland, the showrunner, for an unforgettable, life-altering journey, and admitted her regret that she couldn’t provide more material for the fans to enjoy.

She expressed: “I’d like to make it clear to those who assisted us in such a manner, and voiced their support even amidst the harsh criticism and targeted attacks from the alt-right – I can’t help but say, your love and appreciation for us was profound.”

Additionally, overcoming these difficult aspects of the job only increased its value and significance for me.

Contrary to Stenberg, her fellow cast member Lee Jung-jae (who portrayed Jedi Master Sol) has lately conveyed his astonishment over the series termination and voiced his eagerness for a possible return to his character in the future.

The story “The Acolyte” is roughly a century prior to the events in George Lucas’s prequel trilogy, focusing on Jedi Knight Sol who explored a string of violent crimes that tarnished the standing of the Jedi Order.

In addition to the central roles, the eight-episode series featured Charlie Barnett, Manny Jacinto, Carrie-Anne Moss, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson, and Jodie Turner-Smith as well.

The Acolyte has its first season available to stream in full on Disney+.
