Hello there! I’m guessing that title piqued your curiosity, if not your skepticism. But fear not, dear reader, this is no clickbait trickery. In fact, we’re about to explore a fascinating theory regarding one of the most intriguing mysteries in “The Acolyte.” So, grab your tinfoil hats and join us as we delve deep into the world of conspiracies! Unraveling the enigma of who’s been selling Jedi secrets to the dark side, possibly even revealing the true mastermind behind the series’ villainy.

No, not you, Plagueis! Go back to your voyeur cave.

Let’s explore the possible mysterious side of our furry Tynnan pet, Basil. I have my suspicions that there’s something more ominous hidden beneath his cute exterior.

In the last episode of the season, I found it unusual that Basil shut off Sol’s ship’s power just as Jedi Master was about to apprehend the escaping Mae. He never truly aided Sol after they departed from Khofar. Instead, Basil appeared to be working against Mae while failing to support the Jedi who was supposedly his accomplice.

Bazil’s origin is unknown, except that he was a skilled tracker who could be comprehended only by Yord Fandar and later Mog Adana. As he guided a band of Jedi through the dense jungles of Khofar, his presence brought to mind the charming creatures of the Star Wars universe, evoking the feeling of “Return of the Jedi” with the aid of the Ewoks.

As I watched in horror during the “Night” episode, with half the characters being eliminated from the series, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Bazil darting through the forest, managing to stay clear of the carnage. I found myself thinking, “Man, this guy is really lucky. A Sith is going around killing everyone, and somehow Bazil has escaped.” But then a thought struck me. Sure, it’s his duty to guide the Jedi to Kelnacca. However, he also tipped off Qimir and Mae about their position. And let’s not forget that by this point, Mae had betrayed her master. Bazil inadvertently led the Jedi right into the hands of a waiting Sith.

When Basil disconnected the power to Sol’s ship as it chased Mae, I thought, “Hmm, that’s quite strange.” It made no sense to me why he would do such a thing since it only complicated things for them. However, I pondered over the possibility that the tracker might be trying to assist Mae in some way. From Basil’s perspective, he had seen Sol restrain a woman on a bed, and then this man admitted to killing her mother. In another scenario, Basil may have believed that Sol was a danger to Mae and wanted to help her escape.

Despite this, it’s important to note that Bazil’s early intervention might have helped Sol before the Brendok revelation. When we learn that Bazil possesses an extraordinary sense of smell, it’s reasonable to assume he would uncover the truth about Mae impersonating her sister. Yes, Bazil seems to suspect “Osha” is not who she appears to be. However, he doesn’t immediately inform Sol, allowing the Jedi detective to independently discover Mae’s deception.

Disconnecting the power from Sol’s spaceship made me quip, “Could Basil be an agent of Qimir?” This question lingered in my mind, plunging me into contemplation.

Qmir harbors a desire for vengeance against his former pupil, Mae. In the final act, we observe him pursuing her relentlessly due to her being a potential threat with knowledge of his true identity. It would have been an easy solution for Sol to apprehend Mae; however, Sith are notorious for their flamboyant and theatrical villainy. Moreover, if Sol had succeeded in capturing Mae, she most likely would have revealed Qmir’s identity to the Jedi Order. While this event did unfold, Qmir released Mae only after her memories had been erased. Ultimately, it was someone else who guided Mog and the Jedi towards Mae.

Bazil.

Why didn’t Bazil disable Sol’s transponder upon reaching Brendok, considering the Jedi Order were tracking them? It could have served as a covert method for Bazil to connect with his hidden master, Qimir. However, unbeknownst to Bazil, Osha knew where her sister was located, allowing them to bypass this stage in Qimir’s search for Sol and Mae.

He finishes the season with the Jedi in a positive relationship. By assisting Mog in locating Mae, he maintains their trust. Consequently, he can continue collaborating with them covertly for the Dark Side, potentially betraying their secrets and instigating discord within the Order.

I can’t help but notice how puzzling Bazil’s actions have been this season. From leading a group of Jedi to their demise, to preventing Sol from apprehending Mae for Qimir’s benefit, and all while maintaining amicable ties with the Jedi Order. It’s as if two different personas were at play.

Bazil is a secret agent of the dark side and the true villainous Acolyte of the show!

Now, you can leave your tin foil hats at the door.
