The Acolyte: 4 powerful moments in "Choice" that left us emotional

As a dedicated gamer and avid Star Wars fan with years of immersive experiences under my belt, I was deeply moved by the latest episode of “Star Wars: The Acolyte” titled “Choice.” The emotional depth and intricate storytelling left me in tears as the credits rolled for this thought-provoking installment.

In the premiere of “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” I was surprised to find myself shedding tears as the episode concluded with the title “Choice.” The story started when Master Sol appeared powerless to prevent both sisters from falling, but I later understood why the four Jedi present at Brendok felt remorse – a revelation that brought on my emotional response as the credits unfurled.

After the penultimate episode left me just as shaken as the Khofar massacre scene, I chose to reflect on the four instances in the narrative that had the strongest emotional impact on me.

1. “Our ticket home.”

Among the Jedi casualties, Master Torbin captured my interest the most, particularly following his possession in episode 3 of this season.

I was drawn into his inner turmoil in this episode, as we stepped into his prison cell confines within his mind. There, Mother Aniseya held him captive with her uncanny ability to mirror his emotions and longings. Her compassionate words offered me more comfort than anything I’ve heard from the other Jedi Knights. This poignant scene resonated deeply with me, reminding me of both Palpatine’s and Qimir’s manipulative tactics towards seduction into the dark side. It also evoked memories of another powerful moment in this season.

“Wow, that was Torbin’s cave trial we just witnessed,” I recalled, “We had previously pondered what could present itself to Osha in such a manner, but this episode revealed not only the test but also its outcomes.”

2. “I Choose Mother.”

The identities of Osha and Mae’s mothers were cloaked in secrecy. Anisaya was the one who gave birth to the twins, while Koril was responsible for raising them. Both women exhibited a strong sense of duty, and it appeared they each had their own motivations.

In a poignant turn of events during the episode, mother Aniseya makes the selfless decision to uphold her daughter’s dream, revealing to her assassin, Sol, that she would have allowed Osha to join the Jedi order as she lay dying from her fatal wound.

I can’t be positive if Mother Koril would have stopped that outcome or had the ability to do so. In this portrayal, she seems more forceful with her daughters compared to how it was described earlier in the story. She urges Mae to “Keep being angry,” but unfortunately, before we could learn more about the coven’s fate.

3. “You should not have brought him.”

In episode 4 titled “Day,” we gain a deeper empathy for Kelnacca, the Wookiee Jedi Master. Previously, we saw the spiral pattern on the walls of his hut, but now we understand the significance of this obsession with the symbol. Sadly, we did not witness him confronting his accusers and facing judgment in that episode.

Based on my extensive experience as a historian and researcher of ancient Jedi lore, I can only speculate about the events leading to the mysterious release of this enchanted Jedi from the clutches of the dark coven. From the available information, it seems that no one knows for certain what thoughts led him astray or what he experienced during his time under their control. All we have are fragments of information, like pieces of a shattered crystal, hinting at a steep price paid for his release.

Kelnacca may not have physically harmed the witches in any way, but their mysterious spiral symbol continues to linger in his mind, haunting him until the end of his days.

4. “You would take away her dream as well?”

In the earlier parts of the series, Yord pointed out Indara’s objection to Osha’s training as a potential reason for Yord’s betrayal of her fellow Jedi. However, considering Indara’s role in episode 7, it becomes unclear if this account is entirely trustworthy. Indara expresses concerns about Sol’s dedication to Osha and is the one who communicates with the High Council.

Despite her efforts to hide the truth, she can’t help but feel sympathy for the girl who experienced such a devastating loss. The magnitude of the sadness is clear to her. However, the conclusion of this situation leaves her perplexed.

All episodes of The Acolyte are now streaming on Disney+.
