The Acolyte: 3 characters who were done dirty by the narrative

As a devoted fan of “The Acolyte,” I cannot help but reflect on the heart-wrenching fates of three characters who were unfairly treated by the storyline. I understand that tragedy can be an essential aspect of storytelling, and some of these unfortunate souls met their end due to circumstances beyond their control.

As someone who has spent countless hours engrossed in the captivating world of “The Acolyte,” I can’t help but reflect on the three characters whose fates left a profound impact on me. These individuals, in their own ways, were unjustly cast as scapegoats, either by their own doing or through the manipulation of others.

Let’s look at 3 characters in The Acolyte who were done dirty by the story.

1. Kelnacca

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel deeply sorry for poor Kelnacca in “The Acolyte.” He truly was an innocent victim of the circumstances that unfolded throughout the series. In fact, he did nothing but good deeds – he was kind to the twins on Brendok and even prepared scrumptious meals for his Jedi friends.

As a devoted fan, I cannot help but express my deep empathy for the first live-action Wookiee Jedi, Kelnacca. Despite having a tragic backstory and never causing harm, he has been subjected to hardships. My heart aches for him, and I eagerly anticipate the upcoming Kelnacca comic book release in a few months. I strongly believe that this noble giant deserves a heartwarming narrative that does justice to his character.

2. Mae

After finishing the last episode of “The Acolyte“, I was left in awe, reflecting on how sad and moving Mae’s journey had been.

Mae was cherished only by her two mothers – one who met a violent end in front of her eyes, and the other who disappeared during a battle. The entire population of Mae’s community perished when intruders entered their homes and abducted her twin sister, Sol. Despite their shared bond, neither Sol nor Qimir ever truly desired Mae; they both preferred Osha instead. In their reunion, Mae selflessly shielded Osha and granted her heart’s desire, sacrificing the remaining 16 years of her life in the process. Ultimately, Qimir erased those final years from Mae’s consciousness.

Mae’s tale is marked by hardships in the plotline. Here’s hoping that, should there be a new season of “The Acolyte“, Mae experiences joy and tranquility at some stage.

3. Sol

Sol’s actions aren’t justifiable by my standards because his pursuit of a “noble cause” led everything that transpired. Despite his deep affection and noble intentions, he was deeply flawed and obstinate, ultimately maintaining his convictions even unto death.

After his death, Master Vernestra Rwoh took actions that led to Sol being included on this list. She not only betrayed him but also publicly disparaged him, effectively trampling on his reputation posthumously. Although I wasn’t surprised by her deceit, it made me feel more empathy towards Sol since he couldn’t defend himself against the accusations. Matthew Rudoy, in his review of episode 8, beautifully illustrated this idea with an apt analogy.

As someone who has lost a dear friend, I found it utterly disheartening to read about Vernestra’s apology to Sol’s corpse. The audacity of her actions, knowing full well what she was planning to do next, struck a raw nerve in me. It felt like an unnecessary and insensitive insult to Sol’s memory.
