The 46 Most Anticipated TV Shows of 2025
As a pop culture enthusiast who’s been following the entertainment industry for more than two decades, I can confidently say that 2023 and beyond is shaping up to be an exciting time for TV fans! The lineup of returning shows and new series is nothing short of astonishing, with some of my all-time favorites making a comeback.
Open the cover of your 2025 calendar and mark down some key dates, as we’ve compiled a list of the most anticipated new and returning series set to air next year.
2024 witnessed the end of numerous television shows. Some concluded intentionally, such as Larry David’s long-lasting “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” the humorous vampire series “What We Do in the Shadows,” and the unexpected hit spin-off “Young Sheldon.” Others, however, were unceremoniously cancelled, including “The Acolyte” from the Star Wars universe, Netflix’s epic about Greek gods titled “Kaos,” and the beloved “Our Flag Means Death” by Taika Waititi.
As some TV series wrap up and doors shut, I can’t help but feel excited about the fresh opportunities that are about to unfold. Next year seems to be bursting at the seams with high-stakes productions such as a new Game of Thrones prequel and an impressive lineup of originals on Apple TV+. And let’s not forget some highly anticipated comebacks like The White Lotus, The Bear, and The Traitors – these shows are definitely worth the wait!
We’ve narrowed down the shows we think will be on everyone’s lips in 2025.
Brand new
Lockerbie: A Search for Truth (Peacock)
Jan. 2
In the days leading up to Christmas 1988, the United Kingdom suffered its most devastating terror attack ever when a Pan Am plane was destroyed mid-air over the tiny Scottish town of Lockerbie, claiming the lives of 270 individuals. In the film “Lockerbie: A Quest for Truth“, Colin Firth portrays Jim Swire, who tragically lost his daughter in the blast and became the voice for families who suffered similar losses. He suspects that the government is hiding the true events surrounding the flight, but as 36 years of history have shown us, the truth is not always straightforward.
American Primeval (Netflix)
Jan. 9
In simpler terms, if the title of Netflix’s latest gritty drama suggests something ominous and wicked, that’s exactly what it is about. The series, titled American Primeval, delves into the origins of the American West, portraying the dangers and violence that arose from competing cultures and religions battling for supremacy. Taylor Kitsch stars as a man scarred by past events, navigating the landscape, while Betty Gilpin’s character seeks a guide to traverse the country. Their quest for freedom might lead them to survival instead, given the harshness of the frontier.
The Pitt (Max)
Jan. 9
In 2025, it’s possible that Noah Wyle could reprise his role as a doctor, this time serving as the chief of staff at a Pittsburgh hospital. This series, titled “The Pitt,” is not exactly like “ER” but shares some similarities with “24.” Each episode focuses on one hour of Wyle’s 15-hour shift and provides an unyielding portrayal of the demanding circumstances faced by contemporary healthcare workers in America. From overcrowded waiting rooms to staff shortages, it aims to offer a realistic depiction of the challenges these professionals encounter daily.
Prime Target (Apple TV+)
Jan. 22
Following the emotional rollercoaster ride of One Day, it’s a relief that Leo Woodall’s subsequent series, Prime Target, seems geared towards providing more pulse-pounding moments rather than tugging at our heartstrings. In this story, we follow the character of Edward Brooks, a brilliant mathematician (symbolized by prime numbers), who is on the verge of a groundbreaking discovery but suspects someone is trying to sabotage his work. Alongside an FBI agent (Quintessa Swindell) assigned to monitor him, Brooks and the agent will collaborate to expose the conspiracy lurking in their respective fields.
Watson (CBS)
Jan. 26
One way to rephrase the given text in a natural and easy-to-read manner is:
Paradise (Hulu)
Jan. 28
Sterling K. Brown is reuniting with Dan Fogelman, the creator of This Is Us, in a new series that revolves around the assassination of the President of the United States, portrayed by James Marsden. In this role, Brown takes on the part of the head of security, who was the last person to see him alive after being privy to a top-secret and possibly world-changing revelation. This setup promises a dose of suspense, espionage, captivating mysteries, and Brown delivering another exceptional performance as a character whose allegiances remain uncertain – leaving us guessing whether to cheer him on or question his actions.
SNL 50th Anniversary Special (NBC)
Feb. 16
The Saturday Night Live (SNL) birthday party has been an ongoing event throughout the entire season, featuring many original hosts and returning cast members. The main celebration for Lorne Michaels’ comedy creation turning 50 will be a live three-hour special focusing on the sketch show’s 50 years of success. At this time, there is no information available regarding who will host or which cast members from its storied history will return to celebrate. Given the format of their 40th anniversary special a decade ago, we can anticipate numerous famous faces and multiple musical performances.
Zero Day (Netflix)
Feb. 20
In simple terms, the political thriller “Zero Day,” coming soon on Netflix, signifies Robert De Niro’s debut in the realm of high-end television productions. This is quite an achievement given that many of his fellow top-tier actors have already ventured into TV over recent years. Alongside De Niro, the series will star Jesse Plemons, Dan Stevens, Lizzy Caplan, and Angela Bassett. The story revolves around a revered former U.S. president, portrayed by De Niro, as he spearheads an investigation into a devastating cyberattack.
The Americas (NBC)
Feb. 23
Stepping up to replace David Attenborough is none other than Tom Hanks, who’s ready to take on narrating duties for this sweeping nature documentary series. This captivating showcase journeys through the breathtaking landscapes of North and South America, from the highest reaches of the Arctic Circle down to the depths of Antarctica. Filmed over a span of five years, it offers an unparalleled glimpse into the wonders of our natural world.
Suits LA (NBC)
Feb. 23
In no short supply in L.A. is legal representation, so it’s logical that the first spin-off of the hit show Suits, which featured Meghan Markle as a New York attorney and gained immense popularity on streaming platforms following its 2019 conclusion, would relocate to the West Coast. The series features Stephen Amell as a former federal prosecutor from New York who settles in Hollywood to take on high-profile clients in Los Angeles. Maggie Grace is also part of the cast.
Daredevil: Born Again (Disney+)
March 4
We’ve had a lengthy journey leading up to the release of “Daredevil: Born Again.” The eagerly anticipated solo comeback for Charlie Cox’s blind superhero, following the brief Marvel-Netflix collaboration, was initially announced in 2022. However, by 2023, it underwent a significant creative transformation with Dario Scardapane, from “The Punisher,” taking over as showrunner. This series, which is being marketed as a continuation of the character’s initial three-season Netflix run rather than a reboot, will see the return of original cast members Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio as the antagonist Kingpin, Deborah Ann Woll as Foggy Nelson, and Elden Henson as Karen Page to the grimy streets of New York’s Hell’s Kitchen.
Dope Thief (Apple TV+)
March 14
A new crime series based on the story by Peter Craig (who wrote Top Gun: Maverick) is set to premiere next year. In this show, Brian Tyree Henry and Wagner Moura portray a pair of con artists who pose as DEA agents in order to rob a house in the countryside. However, they soon discover that they’ve stumbled upon the largest drug trafficking route on the East Coast. Ridley Scott will serve as executive producer for the production.
The Residence (Netflix)
March 20
To date, Netflix’s $100-million agreement with Shonda Rhimes has produced blockbusters like “Bridgerton,” its offshoot “Queen Charlotte,” and the Anna Delvey miniseries “Inventing Anna.” The latest addition to this impressive lineup is “The Residence,” a thrilling murder mystery unfolding within the White House. This series, labeled as an “upstairs-downstairs-and-backstairs” tale, features Uzo Aduba playing the quirky detective character alongside Giancarlo Esposito and Randall Park.
The Studio (Apple TV+)
March 26
The sign of truly making it in Hollywood isn’t an award or a mansion in the hills, it’s wracking up enough caché to get Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Charlize Theron, Zac Efron, and Kathryn Hahn to berate you on screen. The Studio stars Seth Rogen as a movie studio head on the brink of existential crisis as he tries to toe the line between making art and “movies with a capital M.” The trailer alone is like a rolodex of big-name cameos playing heightened versions of themselves, which, when executed well, can be delightful.
Your Friends & Neighbors (Apple TV+)
April 11
In a fresh take on familiar territory, Jon Hamm portrays a cunning, somewhat sociopathic businessman navigating the bustling cityscape of New York. This isn’t entirely new territory for us, though. In the upcoming series Your Friends & Neighbors, Hamm steps into the lead role after his stint on Mad Men. He dons the suit once more to play a hedge fund manager who, following the loss of his job and marriage, resorts to swindling the affluent residents in his suburban neighborhood. Predictably, the deception spirals out of control, and when he pilfers the wrong item from the wrong house, his web of petty crime begins to fray. The series will also feature Olivia Munn and Amanda Peet.
Government Cheese (Apple TV+)
April 16
A new comedy series on Apple TV+ is titled “Government Cheese“. This show stars and is executive produced by David Oyelowo. Set in 1969, it follows an unusual family in Los Angeles. Upon his release from prison, Oyelowo’s character attempts to reconnect with his family who have grown apart during his absence. They have seemingly created a peculiar life filled with lofty aspirations and bizarre hobbies while he was gone. The creator of this show is Paul Hunter, known for being one of the most influential hip-hop music video directors. Previews of the series reveal a visually stunning production.
Alien: Earth (FX)
Summer TBA
For many years, the Alien movie series has been a significant part of cinema history, with its latest release, Alien: Romulus, coming out this year. However, Alien: Earth will mark the first time the franchise ventures into live-action television. To make the xenomorph’s small-screen debut memorable, they’ve enlisted the talented Noah Hawley, creator of Fargo, to take charge of the project. Set on Earth and serving as a prequel to Ridley Scott’s 1979 film starring Sigourney Weaver, the series unfolds after an enigmatic spacecraft carrying a hazardous entity (can you guess what that might be?) poses a threat to humanity’s existence.
Stick (Apple TV+)
TBA
In the humorous golf-centered film titled “Stick,” Owen Wilson assumes the role of Pryce Cahill, a former professional golfer whose career was unexpectedly halted. Now, he takes on the task of mentoring a 17-year-old prodigy with issues, drawing some comparisons to characters like Eddie in “Eddie the Eagle” (2016) or Daniel in “The Karate Kid” (1984). Although details about this series remain largely unknown, we do know that Timothy Olyphant and Judy Greer will join Wilson on screen.
Smoke (Apple TV+)
TBA
Taron Egerton is set to reunite with Dennis Lehane, the creator of “Black Bird”, for a dramatization titled “Smoke”. This production is based on a real-life true crime podcast of the same name that revolves around the pursuit of an arsonist who apparently detailed their crimes in a written manuscript. In this series, Egerton will portray a mysterious arson investigator chasing two notorious arsonists who are causing havoc in the region. Alongside Egerton, the cast includes Jurnee Smollet, John Leguizamo, and Rafe Spall.
Chief of War (Apple TV+)
TBA
In the series “Chief of War,” Jason Momoa dons various roles, serving as its writer, executive producer, and lead actor. This production chronicles the gruesome colonization of Hawaii, narrated from the perspective of the native population. Momoa portrays Ka’iana, a warrior famously recognized as the most renowned Hawaiian figure globally.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (HBO)
TBA
In simple terms, the world of “Game of Thrones” grows larger, with more stories to be told. Apart from “House of the Dragon,” another prequel, based on George R.R. Martin’s “Tales of Dunk and Egg” novellas, is set for release in 2025. This series takes place a century before the events of “House of the Dragon” and follows the lives of a young knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his squire, who goes by Egg. George R.R. Martin himself will write this series, promising a distinct tone compared to its sequels, but remember, in Westeros, no one is completely safe.
Chad Powers (Hulu)
TBA
The Glen Powell-led summer series is prolonging its duration into the year 2025, titled Chad Powers. This comedy show is a joint creation of Glen Powell and Michael Waldron, inspired by Eli Manning’s ESPN docuseries where he disguised himself during college football tryouts. In this series, Glen Powell will portray a former college quarterback who has fallen from grace and seeks another opportunity by assuming a new identity on a different college team, complete with a wig and prosthetics to hide his true self!
The Four Seasons (Netflix)
TBA
If you’re yearning for a contemporary take on the timeless romantic comedy genre, you might be pleased to learn about “The Four Seasons“, Tina Fey’s modern adaptation of the 1981 comedy starring Alan Alda and Carol Burnett. This story is as much about friendship as it is about romance, with a focus on three couples who take vacations together each season, only to have their bond disrupted when one of them gets divorced and introduces a new partner into the group. Tina Fey will be at the helm of this project and will join forces once again with her “Date Night” co-star Steve Carrell. Joining the cast are Will Forte, Colman Domingo, Kerri Kenney-Silver, and Erika Henningsen.
IT: Welcome to Derry (HBO)
TBA
In the films “It” (2017) and “It Chapter Two” (2019), we were given glimpses into the backstory of Pennywise, the terrifying sewer clown who murders children. These insights form the basis for the upcoming prequel series, “Welcome to Derry.” This series is set in the 1960s, 27 years before Stephen King’s original novel, and will delve into Derry’s earliest encounters with Pennywise. The show will explore the town’s first sightings of the dancing clown and the fear that gripped the residents during this time. As a bonus, viewers can expect the series to reflect King’s signature style, incorporating the looming threat of the Cold War as well as the unknown horrors lurking beneath the sewer grates.
Long Bright River (Peacock)
TBA
2020 saw Liz Moore’s novel “Long Bright River” garner critical acclaim, making it one of Barack Obama’s favorite books of the year. Now, this highly praised book is set to make its screen debut through an adaptation. Actress Amanda Seyfried will take on the lead role in this series that follows a police officer patrolling the streets of Philadelphia during the opioid crisis. Her estranged sister struggles with addiction and navigates the dangers of the city, including a serial killer who preys upon sex workers.
Running Point (Netflix)
TBA
Following the conclusion of Mindy Kaling’s Netflix high school romantic comedy “Never Have I Ever” last year, speculation arose about her future projects. It seems she won’t be venturing too far, as she returns to the streaming platform for her next venture, titled “Running Point“. This series features Kate Hudson in the lead role, portraying a woman who inherits the top position of her family’s business – one of the most prominent basketball franchises in the nation. Fans of sitcoms will undoubtedly rejoice at the show’s supporting cast, which includes Drew Tarver from the uproariously funny “The Other Two”, Brenda Song, whose career resurgence is being widely applauded online, and Max Greenfield, who may no longer play Schmidt in “New Girl” but will forever hold that role dear in our hearts.
Too Much (Netflix)
TBA
If you find yourself longing for more of Lena Dunham’s unique perspective on friendship and romance, as it seems many others will in 2024 by revisiting Girls, you’ll be pleased to hear that she’s returned with a new series titled “Too Much“. Co-written with her husband Luis Felber, the show follows a New Yorker who relocates to London following a tough breakup and encounters a charming local. Given that Dunham herself has moved from New York to London and married a British man, there could be some personal influences at play. The plot alone is intriguing, but what makes it even more appealing is the addition of Meg Stalter, one of the funniest individuals on screen (catch her in Hacks) and Will Sharpe, the handsome and brainy character from The White Lotus Season 2. We can’t wait to jump back into it!
Victoria Beckham docuseries (Netflix)
TBA
Although Netflix’s mononymous David Beckham 2023 docuseries focused on the footballer’s ascent to “Golden Balls” status, it was his wife Victoria, the fashion designer and former Spice Girl, who came out as the real star. The series reminded viewers that behind the pout, Victoria has always had a razor-sharp wit and isn’t precious when it comes to joking about herself (as seen in her previous satirical reality show Victoria Beckham: Coming to America). Unsurprisingly, the streamer has jumped on that goodwill and greenlit another series, this time focused on Victoria and her shift from extravagant pop star to quiet luxury fashion mogul.
Returning
The Traitors Season 3 (Peacock)
Jan. 9
2025 can’t come soon enough for me, fellow cinema enthusiasts! The electrifying reality series, “The Traitors,” is making a comeback early next year. Here’s to a Happy New Year filled with suspense and intrigue! This show puts celebrities against each other in an intense game of Mafia set in the Scottish Highlands. With Alan Cumming as our charismatic host (we’d surely riot if he wasn’t!), we can expect stars like Bob the Drag Queen, Chrishell Stause, Dorinda Medley, and Tom Sandoval joining the action. Buckle up for another thrilling season!
Severance Season 2 (Apple TV+)
Jan. 17
The wait between Seasons 1 and 2 of Ben Stiller’s high-concept workplace drama felt longer than that stretch between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the office on any given Wednesday, but finally, it’s upon us. Adam Scott is back as Mark, an employee of Lumon, where employees can separate their work memories from their real-life memories. Season 1 gave us plenty of mysteries about what Lumon is actually up to; let’s hope Season 2 gives us some answers before it clocks out for the end of its shift.
The Night Agent Season 2 (Netflix)
Jan. 23
Following the unprecedented success of its debut season, becoming one of Netflix’s most-watched series ever, it took just about a month before The Night Agent received approval for not only a second but also a third installment. FBI agent Peter Sutherland, portrayed by Gabriel Basso, returns to continue his thrilling journey filled with unexpected twists and turns as he delves deeper into the clandestine operations of Night Action, an organization teeming with danger.
Mo Season 2 (Netflix)
Jan. 30
In a natural and easy to read language: Mo Amer’s humorous, semi-autobiographical series chronicling his life as a Palestinian refugee living in Houston has returned for its second season. Co-created by Ramy Youssef, the show follows Mo’s ongoing efforts to secure asylum in the U.S., but this time around, he finds himself stuck at the border in Mexico without a valid passport.
Yellowjackets Season 3 (Showtime)
Feb 14
A more enjoyable way to spend Valentine’s Day could be delving into the intrigue of “Yellowjackets,” a series that follows a group of teenagers stranded in the wilderness. The second season heightened the suspense and posed even more mysteries than its predecessor. In the upcoming third season, it seems that the team is being pursued by someone who uncovers their hidden past—but for those aware of the truth, it’s a matter of survival: either us or perish.
The White Lotus Season 3 (HBO)
Feb. 16
2025 sees the highly anticipated release of the third episode in Mike White’s murder mystery series set at resorts, following its groundbreaking second season finale late in 2022. Previously filmed in Hawaii and Italy, this time the action unfolds at the Thailand branch of the White Lotus resort. As expected from White, he has assembled an intriguing ensemble cast featuring Parker Posey, Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, and Lisa from the globally popular K-pop group Blackpink.
Andor Season 2 (Disney+)
April 22
As a devoted fan of the Star Wars universe, I must say that among the recent spin-off shows, none have shone as brightly as the gem that is “Andor”. This series delves into the events preceding the 2016 film, “Rogue One”, with Cassian Andor serving as our guide through this expansive galaxy. In contrast to previous seasons, which unfolded over the course of a single year, Season 2 promises to span an impressive four years.
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 (Hulu)
Spring TBA
Approaching three years since we last saw “The Handmaid’s Tale,” its final season, Season 6, is set to arrive next year. The creators assure us that the wait will prove worthwhile. As Season 5 concluded, it left us with an unexpected alliance and a growing authoritarian menace in Canada.
The Bear Season 4 (FX)
TBA
The show called “The Bear” has gained immense popularity since its premiere, much like boiling water overflowing from a pot. Its second season swept every available award and while the third season received a mix of reviews, it remains one of the most discussed shows on television at present – not least because it’s releasing seasons at an unprecedented pace we haven’t witnessed in years. Four seasons in four years? It seems we had forgotten what it’s like to live like this!
Black Mirror Season 7 (Netflix)
TBA
Charlie Brooker’s satirical show, which explores the grip of technology on our lives, is returning for a seventh season. Get ready to cast a wary eye on your smartphone or air fryer once more. This upcoming season will feature Emma Corrin, Paul Giamatti, Rashida Jones, Cristin Milioti, and Chris O’Dowd among its stars.
The Buccaneers Season 2 (Apple TV+)
TBA
In a different wording: Apple TV+’s equivalent to “Bridgerton” is “The Buccaneers,” which follows the journey of five determined women from high society, as they deal with the societal differences between 1870s London and America. Actors Greg Wise and Leighton Meester have been added to the cast for the show’s second season.
Euphoria Season 3 (HBO)
TBA
As a movie enthusiast, I can confidently say that no other “To Be Announced” (TBA) has been as enigmatic as the upcoming third season of “Euphoria.” Created by Sam Levinson, this gripping series offers an unflinching portrayal of the drug-infused, passion-driven lives of adolescents.
The Gilded Age Season 3 (HBO)
TBA
Julian Fellowes’ “The Gilded Age,” set amidst late-1800s New York high society, demonstrates that captivating drama can emerge from even the smallest disagreements over which opera house is the finest. As the city transitions in Season 3, the established elite will be replaced by new socialites who hold sway over the town.
The Last of Us Season 2
TBA
Option:
Poker Face Season 2 (Peacock)
TBA
Rian Johnson has essentially become the go-to guy for mystery series; he’s coined the term “Poker Face” as a ‘whodunnit’ or ‘who-did-it-and-how’ kind of show. Natasha Lyonne reprises her role as Charlie Cale, a weekly detective based in Las Vegas, with plenty of suspects among high-profile guest stars. This season features Kumail Nanjiani, Katie Holmes, John Mulaney, Ego Nwodim, and Sam Richardson, who will all make appearances.
Stranger Things Season 5 (Netflix)
TBA
It’s been such a long time since the last season of “Stranger Things” that we’re almost on the verge of experiencing another cultural revival with “Running Up That Hill”. The anticipation is intense, as we prepare to bid farewell to Hawkins, the Upside Down, and the characters who somehow manage to remain 15-year-olds even though the show is nearly a decade old. With Hawkins having been ravaged by Vecna’s destruction in the previous season, the group must unite one last time to vanquish their town’s most formidable enemy yet.
Wednesday Season 2 (Netflix)
TBA
2023 saw the highly anticipated debut of “Wednesday” Season 1, swiftly surpassing the viewership numbers of “Stranger Things.” This groundbreaking first season left many anticipating its second installment, especially after Jenna Ortega’s captivating portrayal of the iconic character with pigtail braids. Her witty performance serves as a reminder to never underestimate the enigmatic charm of The Addams Family, and that black indeed complements any ensemble beautifully.
You Season 5 (Netflix)
TBA
Is it inevitable that Joe Goldberg will face the consequences of his actions? This is a question many will ponder as we approach the last season of You. After a trail of murderous incidents in New York, California, and London with differing levels of accomplishment, the stalking serial killer portrayed by Penn Badgley has returned to familiar ground. However, this time he’s got a wealthy wife as his shield.
