The 2025 WWE Women’s Royal Rumble is wide open for the taking

As a lifelong WWE enthusiast who has watched every Royal Rumble since its inception, I am eagerly anticipating the start of 2025 and the Women’s Royal Rumble match. The Women’s division is at an interesting crossroads, with several familiar faces vying for championship glory, but the rest of the roster seems to be lacking in terms of momentum and intrigue.

2024 is wrapping up, and WWE has completed its lineup of Pay-Per-View events. Along the way, they’ve achieved several victories. Everyone is eagerly awaiting 2025, with the Royal Rumble marking the start of the year as the first main roster Pay-Per-View event. Both women and men will compete in one of the year’s most significant matches, paving the way for WrestleMania. In the women’s division, it’s anyone’s guess who will emerge victorious in the battle royale, leaving the outcome uncertain.

The women’s segments on both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown seem a bit unusual. The title scene is brimming with well-liked performers circling the championships. Liv Morgan is making a stand against Rhea Ripley, while Nia Jax faces a significant challenge from Tiffany Stratton, along with the Money in the Bank Briefcase hanging overhead. Despite ongoing criticism about their narrative development, these four ladies are crowd favorites.

The challenge is that the rest of the division is lacking. WWE has introduced midcard championships for both brands, which will hopefully elevate the women carrying them. But outside of that, no one seems interesting enough nor do they have the momentum to push to the top. There are rumors that both Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch are slotted to return in early January, setting up two massive names for the match. But both ladies have already picked up victories and made their claim to WrestleMania moments. This is an opportunity to make someone else a main event name. Will WWE take the risk?

As a passionate fan, if Lynch and Flair don’t emerge victorious, there are numerous other names that could ignite excitement. For instance, if Jade Cargill demonstrates her prowess and clinches the victory, it might spark a division between her and Bianca Belair. Or consider Shayna Baszler, who has long been anticipated to establish herself as a dominant force in the women’s division. She’s achieved significant tag team success on the main roster, but it’s high time she stepped into the limelight as a singles star. With Sonya Deville and Zoey Stark by her side, WWE could build a formidable stable to spearhead the women’s division’s main event at WrestleMania. Alternatively, fan favorites like Naomi, Michin, or Piper Niven could seize the opportunity to shine in crucial roles leading up to WrestleMania. The roster is brimming with talented and cherished women, and the anticipation would be palpable as we witness many of them ascend to pivotal positions.

How about rephrasing it as: Couldn’t Jordynne Grace be a surprise addition? With her TNA Wrestling contract supposedly wrapping up in early 2025, spectators would be taken aback if this rising star were to receive a significant boost in their career.

Setting foot on the path to WrestleMania kicks off at the Royal Rumble. As for the women’s division, there’s no clear front-runner yet. If WWE decides against well-known figures like Charlotte Flair or Becky Lynch, a number of other contenders are primed to seize this opportunity. Not only would they gain from this victory, but it would also ignite fan interest as we approach the year’s grandest spectacle.
