Well-known actors like Adam Sandler and Jason Statham consistently have popular movies on the platform, and others, like Millie Bobby Brown, have become global sensations thanks to shows like Stranger Things, the Enola Holmes movies, and other projects with Netflix.
It’s unusual for someone to become so well-known at a young age, but an 18-year-old actor is currently achieving that. He’s already had significant success in movies, and now those films are gaining even more popularity thanks to Netflix, keeping him in the spotlight.
Mason Thames Is The Star Of Two Different Trending Movies On Netflix

Mason Thames, who began acting at age 10 in 2017, is quickly becoming a popular star. He currently stars in two of Netflix’s most-watched movies in America: How to Train Your Dragon is at No. 2, and The Black Phone is at No. 4.
Daniel Thames recently starred in the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon, the popular DreamWorks animated film. Released last summer, it initially streamed on Peacock and is now gaining a new following on Netflix. The movie quickly reached the No. 1 spot on Netflix after its release, but has since been overtaken by Tyler Perry’s Joe’s College Road Trip.
However, The Black Phone was really where Mason Thames first gained major recognition as an actor. Although he’d done some acting before the 2021 horror movie, it was his performance alongside Ethan Hawke in the film, directed by Scott Derrickson, that caught Hollywood’s attention. This role was pivotal in helping him get cast in How to Train Your Dragon.
Mason Thames’ Netflix Dominance Continues A Very Successful Run
The fact that two movies starring Mason Thames are currently in Netflix’s top 10 shows just how quickly he’s become a popular actor. Both How to Train Your Dragon and The Black Phone did very well in theaters, earning both positive reviews and a lot of money, and now they’re also proving to be hits with streaming audiences.
As a movie fan, I’ve been really impressed with the choices this actor has been making early on. Beyond the huge success of How to Train Your Dragon last year, he’s already back with The Black Phone 2 and even took the lead in a film based on a Colleen Hoover novel, Regretting You. What’s cool is both of those newer projects did really well at the box office – $132 million and $90 million respectively – and they’re also finding audiences on streaming services, which is great to see.
Mason Thames is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s most successful young actors. With the upcoming release of How to Train Your Dragon 2, his current success is likely to open doors to even more exciting roles and projects. If he continues to star in popular movies and shows, it won’t be long before everyone knows the name Mason Thames.
