It’s funny, isn’t it? Here I am watching a heist movie about getting rich, and it totally proves money isn’t the key to a great action film. You see Hollywood throwing insane amounts of cash at these tired franchises – and getting slammed for it (seriously, the latest Fast & Furious was…rough). Meanwhile, this incredibly talented indie team made one of the year’s best action movies for practically pocket change. You might not have heard of Hierarchy yet, and that’s okay, but now that it’s blowing up on streaming, you really have no excuse to miss it.
The action movie Hierarchy is gaining popularity on Starz, quickly climbing the streaming charts. Since its release earlier this year, it’s consistently been among the most-watched movies on the platform – currently ranking as the tenth most popular, behind Michael Jai White’s Hostile Takeover. This Hierarchy is different from the Korean drama with the same title. Directed by Russull K Reed and written by Chiderah Uzowulu (who also stars), the film follows Stone and his brother Reach as they attempt a dangerous heist. Here’s what the movie is about:
Brothers Stone and Reach are planning their riskiest heist yet, but everything goes wrong. They’re pursued by a dangerous mafia group with a vendetta, and old family problems resurface, jeopardizing the entire operation. To make matters worse, the police are hot on their trail, turning their carefully laid plans into a desperate fight for survival against the clock.
Despite being made with a very small budget, similar to many Hollywood action films, Hierarchy didn’t get much attention from critics and therefore doesn’t have a score on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers on IMDb gave it an average rating of 4.3, but you shouldn’t pay much attention to that. The few people who reviewed it on Rotten Tomatoes really liked this low-budget take on Michael Mann’s Heat.
Big Screen Explosions On a Low Budget

Sabi
A $100,000 budget for an action movie usually means low quality – think amateur filmmaking with bad dialogue and special effects. However, the film Hierarchy is surprisingly good, even with its limited funds. The trailer is packed with action and should grab your attention, but if you need more convincing, here’s what viewers have been saying about it.
Viewers are calling this one of the best crime thrillers in decades, with some comparing it favorably to the classic film Heat. Many praised the film’s compelling story and strong performances, especially considering its remarkably low budget of under $100,000. High ratings on IMDb echoed these sentiments, with viewers highlighting the film’s non-stop action, tight pacing, and meaningful scenes – it avoids unnecessary fluff and delivers pure excitement. While it may not have a big Hollywood budget or famous actors, Hierarchy, currently streaming on Starz, is definitely worth watching.
