The DC K.O. tournament has been going on for months and is shaping up to be one of the biggest superhero battles ever. Heroes from all corners of the DC Universe have been brought together to fight until only one remains, with the ultimate prize being control of Apokolips. DC has really invested in this event, making it large and engaging for fans.
So far, DC K.O. and other related comics have featured several crossover battles – in both limited stories and ongoing series. The most successful of these fights showed a strong knowledge of the characters involved and their backgrounds, and they consistently had the right heroes win.
In the third round of the tournament, fighters could team up with competitors from earlier rounds. Wonder Woman chose Big Barda, a powerful warrior with ties to both the villainous Female Furies and the Justice League. Together, they faced off against Cyborg and Connor Hawke, a skilled duo combining fighting ability with advanced technology.
Although Green Arrow and Cyborg put up a fight, they were no match for the sheer strength of the two opponents. Both heroes were defeated by a powerful attack from Diana’s bracelets. The moment looked impressive, but ultimately it’s considered the weakest battle because it ended too abruptly.
Cyborg’s first tournament match was a tough one against Swamp Thing, the protector of the Green. However, Victor’s advanced technology gave him a clear advantage, resulting in a quicker-than-expected win.
In the second round, Swamp Thing briefly overwhelmed Victor mentally, giving him an easy win. Victor then surprised everyone by accessing the combined powers of the Titans. Although this didn’t secure a victory, it proved to Swamp Thing that Victor was determined to win, leading Swamp Thing to concede the final round and give the win to Cyborg.
In the tournament’s second round, the heroes searched for weapons to use in upcoming battles. During a fight with Star Sapphire, Lex lost control of all his powers except for one: the Black Lantern ring. He cleverly used this ring in a unique way, shifting the battle in his favor.
The Black Lantern ring brought back all the gods who had fallen in battle, and Lex Luthor gained complete command over them. Using their incredible power, he overwhelmed most of the Justice League, turning the battle in his favor. It’s a mistake to underestimate Lex; he consistently wins because of his intelligence.
While Green Lantern and the Flash have fought before, their recent battle was unlike any other. Guy Gardner and Jay Garrick hadn’t really faced off much, but a tournament setting put them against each other in the first round. Guy expected an easy win, but he was quickly proven wrong when Jay used his helmet to break Guy’s nose in the first match.
Guy managed to win his first match, but he faced a much tougher opponent in Jay, who was incredibly fast in his Kingdom Come form. Despite this, Guy pulled through, much to the delight of longtime DC Comics fans. He drew on his ancestral warrior spirit to defeat Jay and advance to the next round.
Anyone following the Aquaman comics likely saw Aquaman’s victory over Hawkman coming. He’s recently gained control over the Blue, a power source connected to all the oceans in the universe. In fact, he’s become so powerful he even knocked out Superman with a single punch before the fight officially started.
Hawkman was more experienced, but it wasn’t enough to defeat Aquaman. Aquaman is unique in that he won convincingly without transforming into another being. Not even the strength of Horus could stop him – Aquaman simply removed the water from Hawkman’s body, securing his victory.
While not directly connected to the main storyline, DC K.O. Green Lantern Galactic Slam is still an enjoyable read. The story begins with Kyle Rayner and his team fighting Parademons on Earth. Soon, Kyle finds himself in another galaxy and discovers W.A.M., an organization dedicated to intergalactic wrestling. There, he reunites with Omega Bam-Man, a wrestling champion and an old friend of Wally West.
Things quickly escalated into a chaotic wrestling match with Kyle and Omega Bam-Man teaming up against the Female Fury Knockout, Bromega (Omega Bam-Man’s mentor), and their arch-enemy, Mr. Scuzz. It felt like a classic showdown straight out of the 1980s, filled with recognizable wrestling moves. While incredibly entertaining, it only ranks fifth because it wasn’t officially part of the tournament, even with Kyle’s alterations to the W.A.M., which will probably become more important later in the story.
The third round pitted Guy Gardner against Superman, and it seemed Superman would win easily. But with Hal Jordan also needing help, Superman realized he needed a strong teammate. Luckily, he was able to call on Captain Marvel, who had been eliminated earlier in the tournament, to fight alongside him.
Guy and Hal proved to be unexpectedly dangerous opponents. They tried to defeat Superman using both the Black Mercy and artificial Kryptonite, but Superman had a secret weapon. He persuaded Billy Batson, also known as Shazam, to share his magical power, giving Superman the edge he needed to win. Even those who doubted the competition had to admit it was an amazing moment.
Many DC comic fans probably imagined Batman doing well in a fighting tournament, but he was quickly defeated and replaced by the Joker. Now, he’s journeying through different universes, fighting older versions of all the characters who’ve been his sidekick, Robin, in DC K.O.: Knightfight. One of his first battles took him to a reality where Dick Grayson had to save Gotham from a Bruce Wayne who’d become dangerous after using the Lazarus Pit.
Okay, as a huge Batman fan, I have to say this fight is easily Bruce’s best one yet in the whole tournament! What I really love is that it gets both Bruce and Dick – Dick gets to show off his incredible natural talent, and Bruce has to really dig deep and use everything he’s learned over the years. Plus, the artwork by Dan Mora is just perfect – every panel is amazing!
The matchup between Superman and Captain Atom was a strong one, likely among the best of the first round. Both heroes are incredibly powerful, but they tackle challenges in very different ways. Superman is a true idealist, while Captain Atom is more grounded in reality, and he pushes Superman to confront the harsh truths of any situation.
This fight is perfect for comparing the strengths of Superman and Captain Atom, as they both drew power from across the multiverse. The conflict was incredibly destructive, involving feats like destroying stars and even trying to warp reality. Ultimately, Superman showed his determination to save the world, even if it meant going to any lengths to defeat Darkseid.
The battle between Superman and Lex Luthor is often debated. While Lex Luthor largely controls the fight, showcasing kryptonite weapons he designed to defeat Superman, his elaborate plans ultimately aren’t enough to win.
Lex Luthor almost won against Superman and the Justice League, but Superman surprised everyone with a hidden ability. He briefly used the Omega Sanction to shield his teammates from Luthor’s attack and also figured out how to stop the current battle, ensuring everyone’s safety. While Superman and Lex will undoubtedly clash again, Superman is the winner of this encounter.
