That Time David Spade Kept Giggling Through ‘Tense And Weird’ Scene With Adam Sandler And Co.

David Spade, with his signature wit and straightforward charm, offers a distinct comedic vibe that sets him apart from other Saturday Night Live cast members like Chris Farley and Adam Sandler. While their energies are boisterous and eccentric, Spade’s is more understated. Even in awkward situations, he can’t help but giggle, as evidenced by an amusing incident on the set of Adam Sandler.

The movie you’re referring to is titled “The Wrong Missy.” This tidbit of information stems from the fact that Bobby Lee, who provided much amusement, was a featured guest on Dana Carvey and David Spade’s podcast. Although his part in the film was minor (he was invited by Spade himself), he played a significant role as a check-in desk employee. It seems that he had trouble delivering his one line, “Mr. and Mrs. Tim Morris. Welcome to Alawan,” consistently.

Initially, the actor from MadTV felt relaxed and friendly working alongside many familiar faces on set. However, once Sandler provided feedback, he became entirely uncomfortable. In simpler terms, the actor went from being at ease to feeling very uncomfortable when Sandler gave him suggestions.

I’m on location, feeling great, and we’re shooting outside in beautiful Hawaii! Everyone here on set is a pal of mine. The director yells, “Action!” and I deliver my line just like in the movie. Suddenly, I hear, “Cut!” from video village. It’s Sandler, who rarely visits set. He makes his way down and greets me with, “What are you up to?” To which I reply, “Hey, Adam!” He asks, “What are you doing?” Then he suggests, “Try to make it more natural.” So I do as he says and give it another go. “Cut” again, and Sandler returns with more feedback.

I’m working on a film in Hawaii, and everyone here is friendly. The director tells me to act, so I do. Adam Sandler shows up and asks what I’m doing. He says my performance seems forced, so he wants me to try again, making it more natural.

Back then, what an amusing era! The 57-year-old comedian, famous for his quirky voices and absurd humor in his works, delivered a straightforward joke that left everyone laughing. However, the surreal atmosphere was short-lived for the guest star, despite the consistently excellent performance environment provided by Sandler.

At that moment, Spade joined in and clarified why fits of laughter had broken out among him and other cast members. The repeated mishaps and the urgency to correct the sentence created an atmosphere that seemed “awkward and tense.” This uneasy feeling lingered since everyone was fatigued, as Spade admitted later on.

Now, Lauren [Lapkus] and I burst into laughter due to the awkward tension that filled the air. Adam wasn’t being malicious, but the atmosphere became tense as Bobby repeatedly missed his mark by a thread, causing them to say “Stop.” They paused again, only to instruct, “On this one, just regular.” The intensity of their commands made us all exclaim, “Oh my God,” because everyone was exhausted. To make matters worse, Sandler’s children were part of the scene as well.

It’s hard for me to picture myself in either situation, let’s be honest. Now, being off-kilter is usually par for the course when you’re working on a film set, but given the peculiarities, it seems even more unusual yet amusing.

Despite other cast members facing challenges too, Lee particularly struggled with this specific scene during filming. After each take, the main actor would inquire if that was it, and on many occasions, they had to restart due to Lee’s difficulties, as reported by the star of “Joe Dirt.

Everyone’s quite friendly, but Adam tends to cut right to the chase, which is why his statements often cause us to chuckle. It’s because each time he says something, we can’t help but wonder if that’s the correct one, only to find out it’s not.

Oh, it must have been tough for Lapkus and Spade to keep from bursting out laughing during those tense moments. There’s nothing quite as frustrating as trying to suppress a chuckle, because it usually just makes you want to laugh even harder! This tale has definitely piqued my interest in watching The Wrong Missy with my Netflix account, eager to see the notorious delivery scene for myself.

It turns out the “strange and awkward” sensation was just a mistake, as it appears Lee is involved in the eagerly awaited 2025 Netflix sequel starring Adam Sandler, titled “Happy Gilmore 2“. However, when we might hear about Spade laughing again is yet to be determined since all of his projects are still in production.
