TFT Hack mechanic: How Hacks work in TFT Set 14

New set, new mechanic. Here’s how Hacks in Cyber City work in TFT.

In Teamfight Tactics (TFT), the recently introduced Set 14, or TFT Cyber City, brings a fresh mechanic called Hack. But, you might be wondering what this Hack feature entails within the game? What elements does it impact and are there any advantages to using it? Let’s dive into the fundamentals of how Hacks function in TFT.

In simple terms, the Hack mechanic allows players to temporarily take control over an enemy unit for a brief period. This can be advantageous as you can use their abilities against your opponents or simply prevent them from using those abilities during that time. It’s essential to note that once the hacked unit’s cooldown is up, it will return to its original owner.

The Hack mechanic is associated with certain items in TFT Cyber City, such as the Hack-a-Matic and the Hack-a-Merchant. To utilize these items, you must have a unit with the “Hackable” trait, like the Cybernetic units or the Mercenaries.

Additionally, the effectiveness of the Hack mechanic can be amplified by synergies with other traits and items within the set. For example, using the “Cybernetic Overwrite” trait in combination with the Hack-a-Matic allows you to take control of enemy units more frequently and for longer durations.

In summary, the Hack mechanic is a strategic tool that enables players to gain temporary control over an opponent’s unit, offering both offensive and defensive advantages. To make the most out of this feature, it’s crucial to understand how it interacts with other traits and items in TFT Cyber City.

TFT Hack mechanic explained

In the world of TFT Cyber City, a “Hack” is a unique feature that modifies the game mechanics, influencing aspects like Augments, the in-game shop, and item functionality, among other things. Essentially, these Hacks serve to twist or bend the fundamental rules of TFT’s core systems. As explained by Riot Games, Hacks are designed to advantage players, providing them with added benefits throughout their gameplay experience. In a typical match, Tacticians can anticipate encountering between two and five Hacks.

For instance, Manipulations enable adjustments in TFT’s boost rounds. Players have the option to pick a single Gold Boost or two Silver Boosts. They also have the ability to re-roll the leftmost Boost slot for a possibility of obtaining, say, Economic, Combat, and Marketplace Boosts. Marketplace Boosts stand for retired and beloved Boosts that players can obtain if the specified slot is tampered with.

In the TFT Set 14, you can discover tricks for shopping as well. For example, gamers might secure two-star characters, additional Carousel bonuses, hacked eggs, or increased Tactician health by using Hacked Loot Orbs, among other things.

Hacks as the TFT Set 14 mechanic

As per Rodger “Riot Prism” Caudill, the Hack mechanic represents an advancement from the Encounters mechanic in TFT Set 11. Concepts learned from Inkborn Fables were incorporated into the design of Hacks. Unlike a full-scale transformation of a lobby’s composition, Hacks are intended to introduce “a degree of unpredictability with player control” into the gameplay experience.

Riot Prism clarified that the unpredictability leading to glitches (hacks), their results, and how often they occur, as well as the power derived from their consequences.

Moreover, he elaborated on the method where Hacks derived from Interactions can bring forward the deployment of Upgrades, enhancing strategic planning. Contrasting previous Interactions such as the Sett event, no current Hacks are inactive or serve no purpose.

“So Hacks will always be positive and/or provide for some autonomous direction,” he stated.
