Tessa Thompson says Chris Hemsworth will do ‘anything’ to ‘get the laugh’

The Creed actress captivated a large audience during a screen talk at the BFI London Film Festival. She talked about her varied career and especially shared a lot about her experience playing a character in the Thor movies.

Tessa Thompson jokingly described director Taika Waititi as a “huge infant,” explaining that he’s like a child who happens to have a lot of money.

Thompson also talked about her *Thor* colleague, Chris Hemsworth, describing him playfully as a “baby with muscles” – a very enthusiastic and uninhibited performer. She added that he’s always willing to try anything to make people laugh and explore new ideas, making him a joy to work with (according to Variety).

The actress, who worked with Taika Waititi and Chris Hemsworth on Men in Black: International, described making the movies as wonderfully silly. She explained that the filmmaking process relies on a playful, childlike sense of imagination.

Thompson explained her decision to play Valkyrie in a Marvel movie, saying she was eager to try something she wasn’t sure she could pull off and see if she was up to the challenge. She also emphasized how much fun the experience was and how liberating it felt.

Tessa Thompson is starring in a new adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s play, Hedda Gabler, called Hedda. She says she intentionally chooses challenging roles, explaining, “I’m drawn to projects that really scare me.”

Hedda will have a limited run in theaters on October 22, 2025, and will be available to stream on Prime Video starting October 29th.
