Terror on the high seas! Sam Newman rushed to hospital after his boat set fire before he was struck by drone leaving his foot gashed open
As a dedicated follower of Sam Newman’s journey, I can’t help but admire his tenacity and determination despite the numerous challenges he has faced during his sailing expedition for charity. His experiences on the high seas have been far from smooth, with a series of disasters testing both his physical and mental resilience.
Sam Newman has been hit by a series of disasters while sailing his boat.
A media figure has been sailing on the open waters for a charitable cause, collecting donations for the Rule Prostate Cancer Foundation.
At the age of 78, I embarked on a journey from Queenscliff, Victoria, back in May. However, the voyage hasn’t been an easy one for me.
As he heads for his destination in the Whitsunday Islands, Sam has faced a number of trials.
This week, he had to drop anchor and head to Proserpine Hospital in Queensland after being gored by his own drone.
I was absolutely ecstatically engrossed in scrolling through my social media feed when suddenly, out of nowhere, a strong gust of wind took hold of a falling device and sent it crashing right into my unsuspecting foot. The impact left a deep gash on my poor foot, leaving me in pain and shock. Sam shared this unfortunate incident with the world in his latest post.
In a fit of rage, he shattered the drone prior to going to the hospital to receive medical attention for his wounds, which didn’t necessitate stitching.
I recently experienced an unexpected crisis while out on my boat. Two of its batteries unfortunately malfunctioned, causing a fire on board.
Newman explained that he needed to use the fire extinguisher, yet he was making progress against the flames while navigating through heavy smoke.
For the TV celebrity, the journey has presented continuous challenges such as severely unpleasant weather and massive ocean waves reaching heights of six to seven meters.
“Due to a porthole being damaged by the strong waves and causing our vessel to take on water, we were forced to make an unscheduled stop at Jervis Bay for repairs,” Sam explained to the Herald Sun.
At a certain point, Sam prevented water from entering the boat by lying down on the bed and using his feet to keep the porthole shut.

He described the situation as if he had been tossing cream puffs at the town hall, causing considerable harm to both the electrical system and the interior of the boat.
Sam commented: “We encountered some smaller issues along the way; a transmission leak, a steering ram hydraulic leak, a few burst hoses, and some radar troubles. But we managed to get through it all.”
Sam is currently on a trip with his friend Sue Stanley, and the expense isn’t insignificant; he calculates the total cost to be around $100,000.
Sam is embarking on his initial prolonged voyage aboard a sailboat for the very first time, despite previously owning several boats; this is the first instance of him setting sail on the open water.
