Terrence Howard didn’t play Marvin Gaye because he couldn’t kiss a man: ‘I don’t fake it’

“Do what you love, but don’t do it at me, don’t aim it at me.”

Terrence Howard is sharing his thoughts on the subject of gay men, and he mentions this as a reason for not playing the role of Marvin Gaye in a film.

“Empire” star Terrence Howard says he’s “done pretending” and plans to retire from acting soon.

At some stage, he intended for Gaye to be featured in a film directed by Lee Daniels, who is an executive producer on “Empire”. This was shared by Howard during his conversation with Bill Maher on the recently published “Club Random” podcast.

Later, he was invited for dinner and offered a role in a movie chronicling Smokey Robinson’s life – an offer extended by the legendary musician himself. However, Howard declined due to his commitment to Daniels, stating “I made a promise as a man, I intend to fulfill it with you.

In a setting where they were both relaxed, Howard shared with Maher that one significant error he made in his professional journey was turning down an opportunity to portray someone’s life. Although Howard didn’t specify the exact time, he mentioned that he had to decline the offer during a meeting, which left a profound impact on the person involved as it shattered their heart.

However, portraying Gaye’s life didn’t materialize. Maher found this disappointing as he believed Gaye’s real-life story was far more captivating and dramatic.

What is the secret to the success of Fox’s “Empire”? The music? The outfits?

Apologies, drama just is what it is, and there’s even more drama in being murdered by your father,” the host of “Real Time” stated. “That’s a tale… that’s far more captivating. If you had lived, you could have portrayed Marvin Gaye magnificently. And that’s a story that deserves to be shared.

Later on, Howard, a man who had wed four spouses, each unique, chose to share his reasons for not identifying with the “Sexual Healing” artist, who had been married twice.

At Quincy Jones’ residence, the topic of Marvin’s sexual orientation came up. Now, I don’t mention this to boast, but to add weight to my words, I inquired about it from Quincy himself. The rumors were true, he confirmed, saying ‘Yes.’

1. In 1982, Marvin Gaye stated to a biographer that he wasn’t attracted to men. However, his younger sister, Zeola Gaye, took offense when Jones mentioned her brother’s sexuality during an interview in 2018.

2. Back in 1982, Marvin Gaye openly shared with a biographer that he didn’t have romantic feelings for men. Yet, his sister Zeola was displeased when Jones brought up her brother’s sexuality during an interview held in 2018.

As a devoted fan, I’m deeply saddened to share the news that Jiggly Caliente, a beloved alumna of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ has passed away. Tragically, this followed her battle with a severe infection that necessitated partial amputation of her right leg. My thoughts and condolences go out to her family and friends during this difficult time.

“They would have wanted to do that and I wouldn’t have been able to do that,” Howard said.

“You mean, you couldn’t kiss a guy on screen in a movie?” Maher asked.

The actor from “Hustle & Flow” who was nominated for an Oscar said, “No, I don’t do that,” meaning he doesn’t pretend or deceive. He further explained that if he were to lie, it would go against his integrity and he would rather cut off his own lips than engage in dishonesty.

After the host acknowledged that he, too, was uncomfortable with the idea of kissing a man, here’s what he clarified: “Simply because I don’t want to kiss a man doesn’t mean I’m homophobic,” Maher explained. “Just as many gay men would say ‘eww, yuck.'” Howard then went on to elaborate his point.

On Monday, a court in Los Angeles ruled in favor of Terrence Howard, yet his victory wasn’t entirely without damage, as the judge discarded the actor’s divorce settlement from his second wife, Michelle Ghent, which was originally agreed upon in 2012.

Embrace your passions, but not at my expense,” I expressed as an actor. “I simply can’t embody that role wholeheartedly when I don’t fully grasp its essence.

Originally portraying the character of Lucious Lyon on “Empire” for a span of six seasons, he announced in 2019 that he was quitting acting, stating he was tired of feigning. However, since then, he’s starred in eight films and two miniseries.
