TenZ on Deadlock: “I think the game is fun. I don’t think it’s an esports-optimal game.”
I, as a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, find myself standing on the sidelines regarding Deadlock and its esports potential. With a background that includes dabbling in MOBA games and shooters alike, I’ve got to admit – the prospect is intriguing. However, the skepticism expressed by TenZ and ObsSojourn has piqued my curiosity.
He thinks casuals will have a hard time understanding the game.
Recently, former professional VALORANT player Tyson “TenZ” Ngo shared his thoughts with his audience during a stream, expressing doubt about Deadlock’s ability to thrive as an established esport.
Over the last few weeks, excitement for Deadlock has skyrocketed as more people got to try it out during the playtest. Despite the game being brand new, an online tournament with a prize pool of $10,000 is set to take place across North America next month.
Despite finding Deadlock enjoyable currently, TenZ remains uncertain about its potential as an esport in the near future.
I find the game enjoyable, but I believe it may not be ideal for competitive esports. The game’s complexity can be overwhelming, especially for beginners who might struggle to grasp its intricacies.
This game significantly elevates the complexity usually associated with MOBAs, as it not only retains the traditional MOBA elements, but also introduces a third-person shooting perspective and adds an additional lane and player to the mix.
TenZ is not fully board of Deadlock esports yet
TenZ isn’t the only one skeptical about Deadlock esports
Additionally, TenZ voiced his concern that the viewing experience for Valve’s upcoming MOBA may not be straightforward to follow compared to other games, sparking discussions on how to effectively stream or broadcast it.
As a fellow gamer, I wasn’t the only one voicing that concern. Chantal “ObsSojourn” Vincent, a former Overwatch League observer now turned Overwatch Champions Series observer, mentioned that Deadlock would require significant resources for broadcasts, echoing my sentiments after witnessing TenZ’s clip.
According to ObsSoujourn, it will require a well-skilled and knowledgeable observation team, along with a deep understanding of both the game and theoretical aspects, to make the game understandable for viewers.
Are you in agreement with TenZ and ObsSojourn’s perspectives regarding Deadlock, or do their insights not capture your interest enough to keep you on the hype train?
