Things got heated on Big Brother Australia on Wednesday as a disagreement between housemates Bruce and Jane escalated.
Jane and Bruce had a disagreement this week after Jane felt Bruce and his friends, Colin and Vincent, were being disrespectful to women with their frequent farting.
Okay, so Bruce is totally going off on this older guy – he’s 67, can you believe it?! – because the guy just walked away when Bruce and two other guys tried to, like, protect themselves. It’s infuriating! Bruce is acting like he was the one wronged, when it was clearly self-defense! I just don’t get it!
He told her she needed to apologize to everyone. He felt she not only disrespected him when she walked away, but also disrespected his friends.
That was incredibly unprofessional and immature – honestly, like something out of high school. And it was really disappointing that you left before anyone could share their thoughts.
‘The way you think you speak for all women because you’re God almighty.’
Bruce criticized Jane, saying her behavior was inappropriate for her age, and insisted she apologize and admit she was wrong.
Infuriated by his outburst, Jane retorted: ‘I’m not God almighty.’
He responded sharply, recalling that when she asked, “Don’t I speak for all women?”, they had told her, “No, Jane, you don’t.”
‘Good,’ she replied. ‘Then I don’t speak for all women.’
Bruce suddenly became angry and yelled that she should have mentioned it earlier, when she had talked to him with Colin and Vincent.
“I did say it!” Jane insisted, but Bruce countered, claiming she wasn’t making any sense and was getting too worked up.
Jane hit back once more, telling him her ‘message’ was ‘still clear’.
She told Bruce he was being disrespectful, and he admitted he was, explaining that he simply didn’t like her.
The conflict between them started earlier this week when Jane publicly criticized the group, an incident now known as ‘fartgate’.
She complained that Colin, Vincent, and Bruce were being inconsiderate by farting too much, and that this behavior was disrespectful to the other women living with them.
The woman, a supporter of Donald Trump, explained she doesn’t tolerate disrespect towards women, stating, ‘I won’t stand for anyone treating me badly either.’
The comment really resonated with Vincent, and he decided to respond in kind, defending both himself and the boys.
If you’re bothered by talk of farts, that’s understandable, but suggesting we disrespect women is unfair. To be clear, he, I, and Colin all respect women.
Colin chimed in, adding: ‘Yeah fair enough. But don’t go around saying we disrespect women.’
Jane strongly reaffirmed her criticism, calling their actions ‘disrespectful.’ She then became very angry and left after Colin pointed out that she couldn’t represent the views of all women.
