Telling clue Married at First Sight stars have secretly wed for real – after prank proposal was slammed by fans

In January, Ridge Barredo left spectators speechless when, hinting at significant relationship news, he proposed to his girlfriend, Jade Pywell, by kneeling before her.

However, surprising everyone, the star of Married At First Sight, aged 29, turned tradition on its head in a sudden twist when it was unveiled that his apparent proposal was merely a trick, meant to be cruel.

On Thursday, Jade, 28, subtly suggested an update about her marital status in two of her social media posts.

In the snapshot of their chat, the mother clearly emphasized the word ‘Spouse,’ which she labels as ‘Ridge’ in her contacts.

In a humorous clip about last night’s State of Origin game, Jade captured Ridge making the following comment: “Well, everyone’s aware that State of Origin is packed with rough characters, underachievers, and boisterous individuals. Frankly, I’d rather focus on my girlfriend who’s simply wonderful, admirable, and never puts me in danger.

Misso, of course, is an Australian slang used to describe a man’s wife.    

In the video, it appears that Jade is shown in a full-length mirror, giving a feigned serious nod, and gripping a kitchen knife with one of her hands.

In her subsequent Story post, she mentioned that he indeed spent the entire night watching sports, followed by him being glued to his phone for the remainder of the evening.

The conversation displays messages from Ridge, sent during the afternoon of Wednesday, which say: ‘I’ll feel your absence every second until you return home with love, xx. I wish you would leave your mood at the gym,’ accompanied by a solitary smiling emoticon.

‘Probably not,’ Jade replied jokingly with two smiley faces. 

Daily Mail Australia has approached the couple for comment.  

In season 11 of Married at First Sight, Ridge and Jade were paired together, making them the only couple who managed to maintain a long-term relationship beyond the show. Notably, mental health nurse Ridge decided to relocate from Sydney for his commitment.

The cheerful pair have gained popularity on social media through their comedic sketches depicting contemporary family life.

Instead, the humorous skit about a false proposal shared earlier this year didn’t go over well with Ridge’s 118,000 followers, as it fell flat and received little enthusiasm.

In an Instagram video, he was spotted basking in the sun atop a boat with Jade, only for someone to playfully pretend to propose.

Initiated his intricate joke by persuading Jade to snap a picture alongside him, just steps away from the boat’s edge.

The dark-haired beauty, soaked from head to toe, stood alongside him, revealing her bikini top as her wet-suit slipped below her waist.

Later, he took her left hand in his and knelt down, causing Jade’s eyes to widen with a mix of surprise and joy, for she thought he was about to propose.

Yet, as the trickster leaned upwards towards her and drew near, he unexpectedly pushed her into the water beside them instead.

Jade seemed to find the prank amusing, and she posted the video on her Instagram Stories, adding a humorous touch to the situation herself.

After Jade and her MAFS spouse shared their thoughts on their joint future, it appears they might be considering starting a family soon.

‘She’s not pregnant yet, though, which is a bit annoying,’ he quipped with a laugh.

He mentioned that she was wearing a ring on her finger, but it wasn’t the one he had thought. Instead, he suggested there might be another ring, indicating that Jade wanted a more formal commitment before they began attempting to have a child, as she was aiming for a traditional engagement first.

Jade remarked, ‘That performance doesn’t matter to me. I prefer a genuine proposal, not one where I’m simply given to him.’
