Tell Me Lies season 2 episode 3 is (mostly) a skip (Review)
As a binge-watcher of television shows who’s seen more episodes than I can count, I must say that Tell Me Lies season 2 episode 3 left me feeling like a kid in a candy store that only had one lollipop to choose from. While it wasn’t bad per se, it just didn’t quite satisfy my cravings for the suspense and intrigue that this series has been known to deliver.
This week marks a fresh chapter as we delve into another installment of season 2 for the series, “Tell Me Lies.” Following the double debut last time, we’re now settling into a rhythm of one new episode per week. While I didn’t find season 2 episode 3, titled “I Can See Right Through Myself,” to be particularly eventful compared to the impact made by the first two episodes, here’s our take on this third episode of the season. SPOILER ALERT:
Episode 3 wasn’t terribly disappointing; it was more like a summary of events. If you skimmed through the opening and closing scenes, you wouldn’t miss much. In this installment, we pick up in August 2015 at Bree and Evan’s combined bachelor/bachelorette party. Here, we are introduced to Lucy’s current boyfriend, Max, who appears pleasant so far. As usual, Stephen continues to irritate Lucy. Max even suggests that maybe Stephen has changed for the better. Even if he hasn’t, Max advises Lucy not to let him bother her anymore.
When Stephen steps out to see Lucy, he appears quite sincere, but I doubt his intentions, as does Pippa upon arrival. Loyal friend that she is, Pippa breaks in, sensing something amiss. “Stephen remains the same,” she asserts, and while we’ve only glimpsed him in the present thus far, I find myself agreeing with her assessment. Stephen is a self-centered individual who will go to great lengths to secure what he desires without a second thought for others’ feelings.
During their college years in 2008, Stephen deceives Lucy by saying he wasn’t aware she was a student in the class he was teaching assistant for. Oh, really buddy? Such a big fib. This results in Lucy eventually leaving the class following a difficult conversation. Later on, Stephen lies again to Diana, suggesting that Lucy deliberately enrolled in his class, when in fact it was the opposite. He then manipulates Lucy and charms her, which unfortunately works on her. Then he says something like “this is really humiliating for you.” Man, get lost. Who do you think you are? Poor Lucy, why do you continue to fall for this jerk?
Lucy subsequently approaches Diana to disclose the truth about Stephen’s part in Macy’s accident last year, which he abandoned her after. However, Diana is skeptical at first. However, towards the end of episode 3 in season 2 of Tell Me Lies, it appears that Diana might be reconsidering her thoughts. It’s possible that she doesn’t have as clear a picture of Stephen as she thought.
Ultimately, let’s discuss the relationship between Bree and Professor Oliver. Upon their encounter following their romantic interlude in his university office – indeed – Oliver confides that he is devoted to his spouse and won’t abandon her. Well, okay then, rather indecisive of you, Professor. Nevertheless, Bree returns and they locate a private spot for their secret rendezvous, where they eventually share intimate moments.
Here’s another way of putting it: I’m not sure about the situation. It seems to me like things moved rather quickly. Let me be clear, cheating is not acceptable in any form. In Bree’s position, I might find it tough to resist Oliver too. Tom Ellis exudes an irresistible charm; he’s been capturing my heart since his Lucifer days, and that hasn’t changed here. But remember, make wise decisions!
In terms of their relationship, I must admit, I’m not a fan of Lucy and Leo. She listens patiently to him, but he struggles with anger management problems. Frankly, I don’t think they have good chemistry together. However, the storyline might take an unexpected turn. By the way, if you watched just the opening and closing scenes of the latest episode, you would have a fair understanding of their current situation without missing much in between.
This particular episode didn’t seem to meet your expectations; it was somewhat lackluster, particularly when compared to the first two. If you’re short on time but still want to watch, I’d advise skipping most of it. Just catch the start and finish, and you’ll be right up to date. Episode quality: Average.
