Television star of the 1970s who also appeared on I’m A Celeb looks unrecognisable as he steps out for Monte-Carlo festival – but can YOU guess who he is?
In the 1970s, a popular TV personality appeared almost unidentifiable when he struck a pose for a picture during the 64th Monte-Carlo Television Festival.
He has appeared on our screens for over six decades, making his debut in the cinematic world with Shirley Clarke’s 1964 movie titled “The Cool World.
In the early 1970s, the actor made an impact across several movies such as Shaft, Foxy Brown, and Huckleberry Finn. Towards the end of the decade, he secured the role that ultimately became his most recognized performance.
Stepping onto the small screen, I was fortunate enough to secure a role in the show “Starsky & Hutch.” This series is all about Detectives Ken ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson (played by David Soul) and Dave Starsky (portrayed by Paul Michael Glaser), as they navigate their crime-fighting duties through the bustling streets of the fictional Bay City, California.
Was the enigmatic individual we’re referring to known for his compassionate work as a street informant during that time, becoming a cherished figure? Do you think you’d still recognize him after so many years have passed?

On Tuesday, the star lounging under the sun turned out to be none other than 78-year-old American actor, Antonio Fargas, famously known for his role as the kind-hearted street informant, Huggy Bear, from Starsky and Hutch.
About half a century since its initial broadcast, the single father adorned himself in a fashionable white long-sleeved shirt and matching beige trousers during the event.
With a freshly styled goatee beard and appearing cheerful, the gray fox struck poses for photographs along the scenic Monaco coastline prior to attending the Golden Nymph Awards Nominees Party held at the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel.
After the end of Starsky & Hutch, Antonio surprisingly didn’t slow down but instead saw his career thrive further on.
He’s had roles in over 50 films and TV series throughout his lengthy career in acting, with notable appearances such as a 90-year-old witch doctor in The Great White Hope and Baz in the 2006 British boxing film Sucker Punch.
British audiences might recall Antonio, as he was a contestant on the massively successful ITV program I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! back in Series 4 of 2004.
Antonio was temporarily a part of the show hosted by Ant and Dec, but his tenure ended rather quickly as he became the fourth celebrity to be eliminated after receiving votes, at the age of 78.
However, he is most certainly recognized by the name Huggy Bear, and Antonio acknowledges that it holds a unique significance to be associated with this character.

In a 2006 interview with Gloria Hunniford, he expressed gratitude for his comfort in portraying character-driven roles.
It’s astonishing how, even after all these years, I can still feel a strong connection to a program that held such significance for me.
I find great joy in living each day, as I have the opportunity to explore various interests and continue to create new experiences. Consequently, I am incredibly content.
In my opinion, the key to Starsky & Hutch’s success lay in their dynamic duo and their heartfelt bond. It wasn’t just about the action and the chase – it was about the friendship between two men that resonated with audiences.
There were these two men, Starsky and Hutch, who shared a strong bond of friendship and always looked out for each other. To add to their appeal, they were both quite handsome.
In addition to having a car, music, clothing, and a chatty confidant, you tend not to ponder over the future or its permanence.
‘It was a job, and we worked hard, had fun and tried to make it good. And we did a good job.’
Antonio is father to just one child, Justin Fargos, who previously attended the University of Southern California and subsequently embarked upon a successful career in American football, spending seven seasons as a running back for the Oakland Raiders.
