News Update: The duration for the theatrical re-release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been extended, meaning it will be screened from August 15 to August 21.
Way back when superhero films and comic book adaptations weren’t as prevalent, four siblings made a mark on Hollywood. They’ve come back to the big screen multiple times, both live-action and animated, but their initial endeavor remains cherished. Now, the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film is making a comeback in cinemas through Fathom Events, celebrating its 35th anniversary.
1990 saw the release of the initial Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film by New Line Cinema, quickly becoming a timeless classic. Known for his work in both film and music, Steve Barron served as the movie’s director. Notably, Jim Henson’s Creature Shop was responsible for designing the costumes, breathing life into Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo through a distinctive fusion of animatronics and clay models.
Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Entertainment, commented that only a handful of titles have garnered such a passionate fanbase as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles recently,” he said. “We’re excited to join the Turtlemania and contribute to an unparalleled 35th anniversary celebration on the big screen. Audiences of all ages will enjoy the thrill and action that this iconic series has to offer.

When are the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles anniversary screenings?

On August 17th and 20th, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will return to cinemas for a special anniversary event. But there’s more than just the chance to watch the original film on a large screen for fans of TMNT. A behind-the-scenes featurette about the movie’s creation will also be part of these screenings.
The short documentary titled “Turtles Unmasked” was made in partnership with the makers of TMNT: Evolution, Mutation & Reboot. It promises to show exclusive footage from the archives that hasn’t been seen before, extended scenes that were originally cut out, and personal behind-the-scenes recordings. This includes clips from Barron’s video diary where he shares his thoughts on the difficulties of creating the Ninja Turtles.
