Teddy Sheringham: From Naughties Party King to Family Man and Football Legend

In the 90s and 00s, Teddy Sheringham’s accomplished football career often filled sports sections of newspapers. However, it was his unconventional behavior away from the pitch that frequently grabbed headlines instead.

59-year-old sports icon captivated the football realm since debuting with Millwall in 1983, extending through stints at Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, and representing England from 1993 to 2002.

You’re aware that you’ve got a single night free from four weeks of staying in. The outcome wasn’t the best in terms of photos, but given the circumstances, I’m sure you’d agree it was worth it. After all, we made the most of that one night out and had a great time!

He praised Terry Venables, the England manager at that time, for skillfully shifting the responsibility onto himself instead of the players regarding the incident.

He stated, “Here, I let them go, it’s a responsibility I bear.” And he safeguarded the team members. He shielded us and we admired him greatly for his actions.

1998 saw another instance where Teddy participated in an all-night spree in Portugal, just a week prior to the World Cup Finals held in France.

As an ardent admirer looking back, I find myself astounded by the fact that England manager Glenn Hoddle stood by me amidst the dismissal of my fellow player, Paul Gascoigne, following a comparable incident. The faith he placed in me remains unforgettable.

1998 found him once more embroiled in trouble due to his exuberant social life, as esteemed football icon Sir Bobby Charlton publicly criticized his rowdy behavior.

Teddy’s charismatic, womanizing behavior gained public attention when he started a romantic involvement with the rising star of glamour modeling, Katie Price (also known as Jordan).

In the late ’90s, the well-known actress ended her relationship with her initial partner, who was an electrician, to briefly date a former soccer player from Millwall. However, it was rumored that he became cold towards her afterwards.

At the time, she asserted that the cause for them parting ways was due to ‘him distancing himself once the media discovered our relationship.’

The TV host recalled the instant when she learned the news, sharing that her agent broke it to her by saying she was on the “leading headline.

She said: ‘I went, ‘What do you mean? No! I haven’t told anyone,’ but she had stitched me up…

To this very moment, Teddy Sheringham appears to believe that I was the one who sold that story, but let me make it crystal clear, I have never done such a thing. I felt genuinely disappointed because I held him in high regard and had no intention of betraying him.

Police problems

Back in May 2007, Teddy found himself part of a group of three West Ham soccer players who were taken into custody under suspicion of exchanging traffic violation points to avoid driver suspensions.

He was questioned by law enforcement officers under suspicion of tampering with legal proceedings. Additionally, his fellow players, Bobby Zamora and Shaun Newton, were taken into custody as well.

On May 15th, a 41-year-old individual was detained at an east London police station under suspicion of interfering with the judicial process, as he had made a scheduled visit.

Later on, it became clear that Shaun had been willing to dismiss speeding fines in exchange for £250. As a result, he received a sentence of imprisonment that was postponed.

Glamour girl frolics  

Once more, the topic of Teddy’s romantic escapades made news headlines, as glamour model Emma Davies, aged 20 at the time, shared vivid accounts of an intimate encounter with Teddy.

Following their encounter at a Birmingham nightclub, Emma and Teddy reportedly engaged in an enjoyable romantic interlude, as Emma later disclosed to The People that it was the most exceptional sexual experience she had ever had.

However, their relationship was soon marred by controversy when Danielle lost her title following a Playboy photoshoot, and whispers about her alleged relationship with a footballer who served on the judging panel of the pageant began to circulate.

He was the only judge to vote for Danielle, and she then secured the title via the public vote. 

She insisted that they were not dating during the contest and had only met at the very end. 

She stated that it was all a misconception. Prior to the event, I had already encountered Ted, but our conversation took place only during the after-party, and we exchanged contact details.

However, the relationship was set to be short lived regardless.  

2007 saw Teddy ending his relationship with Danielle, after her questionable behavior on Celebrity Big Brother brought about accusations of racist abuse towards fellow housemate Shilpa Shetty, joining Jade Goody and Jo O’Meara in these allegations.

Danielle, aged 23 at that time, and Teddy, who was 40, had been in a relationship for quite some time before he abruptly ended it. Following his departure, she confessed that she felt heartbroken and distraught.

Although Teddy didn’t manage to speak to Danielle in person, he was observed around town following her exit from the Big Brother house, expressing: “I don’t have a partner right now. I’m not with her tonight, and it’s uncertain if we’ll ever be together again.

‘Many folks persistently inquire if we are engaged, however, I must confess that I am currently single. It seems others find this hard to believe, but perhaps they will come to accept it once they read her statements in the newspapers.’

On the very same evening he delivered his forthright comments, witnesses spotted him engaged in flirtatious behavior at Mayfair’s Funky Buddha nightclub with partygoers. A bystander commented: ‘Initially, he seemed to be trying to conceal the women, but after a couple of Tiger beers, he was flirting as if he were an 18-year-old…’

He kept purchasing rounds of drinks, including shots, for the ladies, clearly enjoying himself immensely. Among them, there was a brunette who particularly caught his eye. As he placed drink orders, he couldn’t seem to keep his hands off her neck and appeared to have no secrets to conceal.

Later on, Danielle expressed that departing from the CBB house wasn’t easy due to the harsh criticism she received not only for her racist behavior but also for her abrupt elimination: ‘I was jeered, it was terrible. It was heart-wrenching. I yearned for people to appreciate me, and they didn’t.’

In my past, I was involved with someone, but when I revealed my true identity, he seemed to vanish without a trace and stated that he no longer wanted any connection with me. He was remarkably similar to the footballer, Teddy Sheringham.

It was incredibly painful because that was my first non-abusive relationship, making it all the more distressing… or Simply put, it was devastating as it was my first healthy relationship, which made its end particularly heartrending.

‘Everything fell apart for me. I felt like I’d lost my ability to work, faced dangerous threats, and it was the darkest period in my life.’

A new man

After tying the knot with Kristina Andriotis in 2016 following a decade of courtship, Teddy has transitioned into a devoted family man, setting aside his playboy lifestyle.

Kristina is 20 years Terry’s junior. The couple share two children.

The place they call their family home is named after the famous Camp Nou stadium, a venue where he scored during Manchester United’s remarkable Champions League final victory in 1999.

To acknowledge their difference in years, it’s said that they once adorned their home with a sign stating: “Home of an Elder Rooster and a Young Chick.

Kristina, a former PR professional, is merely two years senior to Charlie, the footballer son of Sheringham.

Apart from being a football analyst for several global broadcasters covering the Premier League, Teddy additionally serves as an ambassador for his previous teams, Manchester United and Tottenham.

Retirement has also seen Teddy reveal a secret talent of sorts.
