Teddi Mellencamp still lives with ex Edwin Arroyave and wants him to date other women as she battles cancer

Despite being separated, Teddi Mellencamp continues to reside with her husband Edwin Arroyave, as she courageously fights against stage four cancer.

On the Jamie Kern Lima Show on Tuesday, the reality TV personality shared insights into her unconventional living setup, following a burglary incident at her Los Angeles residence.

Initially, following their split in October 2024, they chose to keep their children, Slate (age 12), Cruz (10), and Dove (5), residing permanently in the family house, while Mellencamp (age 44) and Arroyave (48) alternated their time.

Friend of Mellencamp, Kyle Richards, offered a place for her to reside at, and humorously remarked, “I have a shared living arrangement with Teddi Mellencamp. She stays with me every Tuesday and Wednesday,” during an episode on Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast.

After Mellencamp was diagnosed with brain tumors and stage four cancer, that situation changed. 

Despite occasionally staying at another residence, when Mellencamp informed Arroyave that she wasn’t feeling well and was “really sick,” he chose to remain “in the downstairs bedroom at our home for the moment.

She also said she wants him to start dating someone new. 

‘We can live in the same house,’ explained Mellencamp. ‘We don’t argue.

The ex-star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills stated that she had always been certain he would make the appropriate decision concerning her.

‘He has the opportunity to finalize the divorce at this moment if he wished. However, my father, musician John Mellencamp, and our family feel it might not be the best time for her to attempt handling such complexities.’

They responded with a nod and agreement, stating they would delay their plans until she recovered, at which point they would decide what to do next.

It was whispered that Mellencamp was part of an affair before their official separation, however, during an interview on The Skinny Confidential podcast in February, she suggested strongly that Arroyave’s unfaithfulness had been an issue for quite some time.

She acknowledged that she and Edwin experienced some incredible years and moments together, and from the moment they met, it was intense and extraordinary. However, eventually someone else came into the picture.

She said, “I’d respond, ‘It’s alright, I’ll tackle it, I’ll try to win his affection even more.’ After that, life takes its course with children and unexpected events,” she went on.

She has given him her approval for him to date other people, as she communicated to Lima.

‘Is he fine with you dating?’ the host asked. ‘I don’t know. We’ve talked about it.

It seems that many people in my life are concerned about me in some way. For a short period, I had been seeing someone romantically.

The news spread everywhere, with everyone discussing it. Yet when I heard them, I would remark, “Firstly, it happened so long ago that even if you discovered the individual later, at that point, I was no longer involved with them.

If I have the inclination, if someone asks me out on a date or invites me out, she advises, ‘Go ahead.’

She says, “If there’s something you feel compelled to do at this moment, follow your heart and do it. For instance, if Edwin asks you out and you wish to accept, remember, no one is imposing any restrictions on you.

Mellencamp said that ‘right now, I’m not wanting that from him.’

She clarified that all she desires is their happiness, the well-being of their children, and a strong bond of friendship and relationship between them.

She expressed that she doesn’t wish to take any actions that might cause harm to him. Additionally, she hinted at having a good understanding of the dynamics within their marriage.

In their discussion, the personal trainer playfully expressed uncertainty about how to label someone who was once a spouse, but they divorced, only to face cancer afterwards, halting all other proceedings.
