Teddi Mellencamp Shocks Fans with Graphic Scar Photo for World Cancer Day
On the occasion of World Cancer Day, Teddi Mellencamp encouraged her followers to arrange regular skin cancer screenings for their well-being.
Celebrity, aged 43, who had to flee due to the recent Los Angeles wildfires, posted a picture of a substantial Z-shaped scar on her back on Instagram to underscore the significance of scheduling yearly health check-ups regularly.
On this World Cancer Day, I felt compelled to share a vital reminder: don’t forget to schedule those skin check-ups! I recently had the privilege of chatting about this very topic on the Him & Her Show podcast with the wonderful Lauryn and Michael Bostick. Let’s keep the conversation going and prioritize our health together.
If you haven’t seen it before, I recently discussed my entire melanoma experience on the TSC Podcast. Feel free to check it out whenever you get the time.
If you’ve been here before, let’s hope this serves as a refresher. Who is scheduling an appointment today? [Smiling face with heart]
In an Instagram post, the previous star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills commented, ‘Take a look at my back! There was this enormous birthmark on the shoulder blade area I’ve had since birth.’
She said as time went on she started getting growths that ‘almost look like sunspots.’
She credited two good friends with insisting she go to the doctor to have them checked out.
Approximately three years ago, I was jogging with Kyle Richards and our mutual friend, Jen, when they remarked, “Teddi, those items on your back! You need to see a doctor.
At that point, she considered it less important and wasn’t aware that skin cancer was such a significant issue. (John Mellencamp)
After examining her, Mellencamp informed her that her doctor had advised she should consult with an oncologist. However, he proposed to remove the growth immediately and initiate the treatment process.
In my role as a lifestyle expert, I must share some concerning news about John Mellencamp. Last year, he was diagnosed with stage two melanoma, a particularly dangerous form of skin cancer that claims close to 10,000 lives annually. This serves as a stark reminder of the importance of regular skin checks and sun safety measures.
Based on data from the Centers for Disease Control, melanoma ranks as the fifth most prevalent type of cancer among men, while it’s the sixth most frequent among women.
As a wellness enthusiast who’s faced the challenge of cancer, I can share that I’ve undergone approximately 20 surgical procedures since my initial diagnosis, each one a battle won in the larger war against this disease.
According to E! News, her most significant operation involved removing a wide area affected by melanoma, followed by the rebuilding of the affected tissue using nearby tissues for reconstruction, which she had in December 2023.
This is the surgery that left her with the large, zig-zag scar across her back and shoulder.
In January 2024, Mellencamp shared that she had achieved remission from the illness, however, she emphasized that her regular three-month checkups would still be necessary – a process she described as always challenging.
Those who viewed the post expressed their appreciation. One fan penned, “You help me stay committed to my personal path, thank you ❤️.
As I received my melanoma diagnosis, your inspiring content emerged, and it resonated deeply within me. ❤️
A fellow cancer patient expressed gratitude, stating, “You have been instrumental in keeping me accountable! Just two weeks ago, I had another Basal Cell Carcinoma and a precancerous spot removed. I am fortunate to have regular check-ups every six months, thanks to you. You are one of my greatest motivations, and I’m incredibly thankful for your honesty and advocacy. Stay strong, keep going!!! ❤️
Last month, Mellencamp broke down in tears after attending her latest three month checkup.
On Instagram, she shared with her followers that this latest appointment was a significant milestone, as it was the first time in more than two years that she didn’t require a biopsy due to a new cancerous spot during her three-month checkup.
She shared that both she and her doctor were taken aback with surprise upon learning that no biopsy was needed. She expressed that receiving this news brought about an incredibly positive sensation.
As we move into March, I strongly encourage everyone to stay vigilant with regular health check-ups. Let this serve as a friendly reminder: please, schedule your skin checks, mammograms, OB/GYN visits, and eye exams accordingly. Taking care of ourselves is crucial, so don’t forget these important appointments!
Indeed, I can’t help but express my heartfelt gratitude towards each and every one of my medical professionals – the doctors and nurses – who have guided me through my skin cancer journey with unwavering compassion and expertise.
‘Mellencamp expressed his gratitude towards his doctors, nurses, loved ones, and everyone else who has been supporting him. He feels that as long as they are around, he has a purpose to keep fighting for himself and others.’
