Teddi Mellencamp has shared a difficult account of being hospitalized following her fight with stage 4 cancer.
After waking up covered in a painful rash with sores all over her body, the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 44, went to the emergency room. Despite feeling unwell, she still made it to her daughter’s birthday celebration.
Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE the news! Mellencamp announced back in October that her cancer is undetectable! I was so worried after hearing about her brain cancer ā it turned out to be from her melanoma spreading from last year, but thankfully, it’s gone now! I’m just so relieved and happy for her!
On the March 3rd episode of her podcast, Two T’s In A Pod with Tamra Judge, she described a recent health scare. She initially thought she had the flu, but then developed a severe rash ā almost like painful sores ā all over her body.
She claimed the marks on her skin were just for appearance, but they were actually painful and felt like burning. After going to urgent care, doctors recommended she immediately go to the emergency room instead.
Mellencamp shared that doctors found her recent medication was causing Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
As a long-time follower of health information, I’ve learned this condition is seriously dangerous ā the Mayo Clinic actually calls it a medical emergency that often needs hospital care. Basically, the top layer of your skin dies, which causes incredibly painful blisters and a rash. It’s really scary to see and needs immediate attention.
The website also notes that people undergoing cancer treatment are more likely to develop this rare, serious, and potentially fatal condition.
Mellencamp was suffering from painful blisters inside her mouth, around her eyes, and across her entire body, and she also couldn’t swallow.
She was admitted to the hospital and treated with steroids and antibiotics. She explained that doctors wanted to keep her there because her condition could improve, then quickly worsen again.
She was happily released from the hospital with enough time to make it to her daughter Doveās birthday party.
The reality TV personality shared a picture of her six-year-old daughter, Dove, who she shares with her soon-to-be ex-husband, Edwin Arroyave. She captioned the photo expressing her relief at being released from the hospital in time to attend Doveās party.
‘Last year I couldn’t [make it to her party] and it broke my heart,’ she added.
In February 2025, Mellencamp had emergency surgery to remove brain tumors. She was recovering from the procedure and unfortunately had to miss her daughter Doveās birthday.
Along with her daughter, Slate, age 13, and son, Cruz, age 11, she and Arroyave are also parents to each otherās children.
On Wednesday, she used social media to celebrate her youngest childās birthday, which falls on February 25th.
The post began with a recent photo of Mellencamp happily embracing her daughter, who was wearing a ‘Let’s Party’ tiara to celebrate her birthday.
I was so touched by another photo they shared ā it was of Dove as a baby, with the little bandages around her head from the neurosurgery she had in 2020. She was being treated for lambdoid craniosynostosis, and it really showed how brave she was even then.
Mellencamp wrote a birthday message to her child, calling them a ‘miracle baby.’ She shared that her childās courage and ability to bounce back have inspired her in her own personal struggles.
And now, at 6 o’clock, you’re showing us how to live life to the fullest by simply being yourself.
Dove celebrated her birthday with a party shared with Cage, the son of comedienne Sarah Tiana, and her friends.
Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe where they had the party! It was at this amazing indoor place for kids, and it was HUGE! Like, jungle gyms that went all the way up to the ceiling ā seriously, incredible! And pizza, of course, and music⦠it was just perfect. I wish I had been there!
John Mellencamp and Tiana decorated their home with old photos of their children, showcasing memories from their childhoods.
āYou two are adorable! Itās so sweet youāve celebrated all your birthdays together,ā said the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills stars in a video.
She told Entertainment Tonight last year how upsetting it was to have to skip her daughterās birthday celebration.
She recalled a conversation with Arroyave, explaining that she had a feeling it was Doveās birthday. Edwin confirmed her suspicion, telling her it was indeed Doveās birthday and that the party she had organized was for her.
She began to cry and continued, recounting how she’d pleaded with them to let her go home for the day.
She credited her husband with providing the perfect response: ‘Weāll throw another one.’Ā
Just three months after announcing her separation from Arroyave in late 2024, Mellencamp experienced a health scare.
In January, on her podcast Two T’s In A Pod, she explained that while her cancer is currently undetectable, she still isn’t considered fully recovered.
My latest scans still show no signs of cancer, but I’m still considered to be at an advanced stage and continue receiving immunotherapy. Basically, my condition hasn’t improved ā I still don’t feel well.
‘I [hoped] that I would be feeling better by now, but I really don’t,’ she explained.
