Tears for Fears musician Roland Orzabal and his wife Emily have welcomed a baby girl.
Photographer Emily, age 38, announced she was pregnant in June with a photo of herself lovingly holding her baby bump. In the picture, she’s wearing a white and tan striped, mid-length dress.
Curt Smith, Roland’s bandmate in Tears For Fears, confirmed the news of the child’s birth in an August interview with Vulture.
Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE what I just heard! They were planning a tour this summer, I was SO ready, but then Roland’s wife had a baby in June! It totally makes sense, though, you just can’t be on the road when you have a new baby, especially not right away. So, sadly, the tour is off. But honestly? I totally get it. Family first, always! I’m a little heartbroken, but so happy for them!
Many fans have left comments congratulating the couple on their new baby.
One person wrote: ‘Congratulations to you & Roland on the birth of Eula!’

Sending the happiest wishes to the new parents! We’re so thrilled for you both and hope your little one brings you endless happiness, precious memories, and a lifetime of love. What a blessing!
Someone else shared their excitement, writing, “Ohhhh, Emily! I had a feeling this was happening! Congratulations to you, Roland, and the little one! Sending all my love and I can’t wait for updates!”
Another wrote: ‘The glow and beauty of being a mother… Aww, congratulations to you both!’
The couple got married in a private ceremony on Aspen Mountain in Colorado in 2020. They had originally planned a larger wedding, but had to postpone it because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Emily shared on Instagram that she and her partner had secretly gotten married. They originally planned a wedding for September 2020, but had to postpone it due to Covid-19.
As a wedding and lifestyle expert, I’ve spoken to so many brides who felt exactly how I did during the pandemic – a mix of anger, sadness, and feeling totally cheated out of the wedding day we’d always dreamed of. The biggest frustration was simply not knowing *when* we could finally celebrate. It was a really confusing and disheartening time.
Roland and I were working in the US, but we were so eager to get married, even if it was just officially, that we decided to elope. We wanted to still celebrate on our original wedding date, so we secretly climbed a mountain in Aspen, just the two of us, and had the ceremony there. Honestly, it was the most magical moment of my life – so intimate and perfect!
I was really sad my family couldn’t be there, but everyone agreed it wasn’t worth risking their health to come.

I never pictured having two weddings, but we decided to split things up – a simple legal ceremony now, and a bigger celebration later.
She added that they were finally able to use the fall flowers they had planned for in September, and they’re looking forward to using spring flowers next year!
We had a unique wedding ceremony on top of Aspen Mountain, at an altitude of 11,212 feet! Next year, we’re planning a more traditional indoor reception at a beautiful venue.
I wore a gorgeous, flowing Amanda Wakeley dress, and I’m planning to wear a Phillipa Lepley gown next year.
It doesn’t really feel like we’ve had a wedding yet, since it was just the two of us and we kept it a secret. We still haven’t had a first dance or gone on a honeymoon!
I’m incredibly happy six months into our marriage, and I’m already looking forward to renewing our vows with Roland next year! We’ve been dreaming up this celebration with all our loved ones for ages, and it’s going to be amazing.

Roland and Emily secretly married in 2020, and a year later they held a larger wedding celebration with loved ones at Blenheim Palace in England.
As a bit of a music buff, I always love talking about iconic duos! Roland Orzabal is one half of the incredibly successful band Tears For Fears, alongside Curt Smith. They’re the guys behind some absolute classics – you’ve definitely heard songs like ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’ and ‘Head Over Heels’! They really defined the sound of the 80s, and their music still holds up beautifully today.
He already has two sons, Pascal and Raoul, from his previous marriage to Caroline Orzabal.
Caroline passed away in July 2017 at the age of 54. She had been struggling with depression and later developed dementia and cirrhosis, both linked to her alcoholism.
After his wife, Caroline, whom he’d been married to since 1982, passed away, Roland shared with The Irish Times that his life ‘fell apart in 2018,’ leading him to seek treatment in a rehabilitation center.
Personal hardships inspired Tears For Fears to create their seventh album, The Tipping Point.
Tears For Fears released their new song “Emily Said” on October 25, 2024, and an Emily was so excited she shared the news on Instagram, writing, “Today is a great day for Emilys everywhere, since @tearsforfearsmusic just wrote a song about us!”
