Previously, TeamSpeak dominated the chat seas among video game players. Now, it is making a glorious comeback.
In the past, before the era of flooding chats with gifs and using soundboards to annoy friends on Discord, various Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) programs were popular. Among these were Mumble, Ventrilo, TeamSpeak, and even Skype. Back then, microphones produced static sounds, and personalized profile pictures weren’t a priority. It was a more straightforward period in the history of VoIP communication.

Tranquility reigned until Discord launched an attack and seized control of the Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) realm. In the very moment when the world was in dire need, TeamSpeak mysteriously disappeared – until this day.
TeamSpeak comes out swinging
On January 16th, there was a lot of buzz surrounding the TeamSpeak X account. They posted a mysterious tweet saying “It’s time.” Over the next few days, they continued to hint at something new with various images. Finally, on January 18th, they announced that a revival was happening. According to their posts, the upcoming version of TeamSpeak will come with several new features.
- Screen sharing
- Camera sharing
- 1440p/source streaming
- Multi-streaming
- Community servers

Refreshed with a comprehensive redesign, TeamSpeak appears revitalized, ready to challenge the dominance of Discord. Aware of their major competitor, they’ve been sharing guidelines on how to deactivate Discord accounts and cancel Nitro subscriptions – Discord’s premium offering – in their updates to keep everyone informed.
As a passionate user, I’ve noticed that one challenge with TeamSpeak in the past was its limited server capacity. Groups larger than eight had to invest in their own servers. Even though they increased this limit to 32 on the free license, it still falls short compared to Discord, which can easily accommodate thousands without any payment required.
Despite all this, it’s clear that TeamSpeak’s marketing for their comeback is exceptional, and many are growing weary of the endless, seemingly unnecessary updates from Discord. The next version of TeamSpeak is due out on January 22nd, so we’ll soon find out if they can dethrone their current rival.
