Teamfight Tactics director Mortdog quits streaming: The haters won
The TFT (Teamfight Tactics) gameplay director, known as Mortdog, has decided to take a break from social media platforms and streaming, following instances of negative sentiment from players.
Stephen “Mortdog” Mortimer, the gameplay director for Teamfight Tactics, has decided to stop streaming and sharing content on social media platforms. Previously, he frequently discussed TFT during his live streams and interacted with it on various channels. However, this open communication made him a focus of discontent among some players.
Mortdog steps away from posting, streams, and Patch Rundowns
At the end of his April 28, 2025 stream discussing TFT Cyber City, Mortdog announced the sad news.
Lately, the past few weeks and months have been quite challenging under the public eye, being a focus for many frustrations regarding TFT. A simple glance at my recent Twitter posts will reveal this. I’ve been receiving an overwhelming amount of criticism recently, to the extent that I’m feeling rather drained. People have even suggested that I’m putting in too much effort. Frankly, it feels like they’ve succeeded in wearing me down. It’s disheartening to admit after six years, but I’ve been affected by this negativity. I need a break now as I can’t handle any more of it.

It appears that the change isn’t definitive, as Mortdog mentioned that the content, including posts, updates, and streams, will be absent for some time. However, there’s a possibility that his streams might resume, though they won’t focus on Teamfight Tactics in the future.
Mortdog admitted, “In all honesty, I’m not completely blameless in this situation as I’ve been encountering a lot of negativity. This has made me more short-tempered, and I find myself reacting harshly, which seems to happen quite frequently and can escalate significantly.” He suggested, “Perhaps the best course of action is to take some time off. We’ll see how long this break lasts.
Mainly, Mortdog predominantly broadcasts on his Twitch platform, amassing a substantial fan base of more than 300,000 followers. He offers comprehensive overviews of game patches and engages in detailed discussions with the TFT gaming community, sharing valuable insights that might otherwise remain elusive.
Community reacts to Mortdog stepping away
Clearly, many TFT players were disheartened by this news, yet they didn’t fault Mort for his choice. The absence of understanding the reasons behind the development team’s decisions, insightful live streams, and simply enjoyable gameplay left a significant void in the hearts of those deeply connected to TFT.
Dan “Frodan” Chou called it a “massive TFT community L.”
The crowd cheered and showed admiration towards him, with the statement: “There is no developer more transparent across ALL GAMES than Mortdog.” He made this claim.
