In October, starting from the 29th and ending on the 2nd of November, Lionsgate plans to mark the 20th anniversary of the “Twilight” novels by re-releasing the entire film series in cinemas. This information was verified by The Times.
As a passionate admirer, I can’t help but reminisce about the captivating love triangle saga that unfolded among Kristen Stewart as a human, Robert Pattinson as a vampire, and Taylor Lautner as a werewolf – collectively known as “Team Edward, Team Jacob,” or simply put, the supernatural trio. This extraordinary story earned over $3.3 billion globally during its initial release, a testament to its enduring popularity, as reported by Box Office Mojo.
The movies are adapted from the four-book series penned by Stephenie Meyer, and they narrate the tale of Bella Swan (Stewart) and vampire Edward Cullen (Pattinson). Their bond faces challenges due to Edward’s inherent urge to endanger Bella, and also because of Bella’s friend Jacob Black (Lautner), who is a member of an opposing werewolf group.
The Twilight series consists of five movies: “Twilight” released in 2008, “New Moon” in 2009, “Eclipse” in 2010, “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” in 2011, and “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” in 2012. Discussions with author Stephenie Meyer, producer Wyck Godfrey, and other key figures will be held alongside each movie screening.
This year’s Forever Twilight in Forks Festival, a yearly event held in Forks, Washington (the location of the book series), has Meyers listed as its special guest during the celebrations. The festival is set to run from September 11th through the 14th.
The movies continue to resonate in popular culture, often referenced on TikTok by fans declaring their “awakening” to LGBTQ+ identities, inspired by scenes involving Bella and Stewart. In a January interview with Variety, Stewart, who is now openly queer and married to screenwriter Dylan Meyer, confirmed the films carry a strong “gay” narrative.
The actor expressed that it’s a theme revolving around suppression, desiring something harmful. This perspective, he stated, has a dark, LGBTQ+ appeal that he admires.
In 2024, Stewart graced last year’s romantic-thriller “Love Lies Bleeding” and will soon be seen in her spouse’s first directorial venture, “The Wrong Girls.” This project is penned jointly by the duo.
In 2022, Robert Pattinson took on the lead role in “The Batman.” Most recently, he was seen in Bong Joon Ho’s science fiction comedy titled “Mickey 17,” released in 2025. Later this year, you can catch him in Lynne Ramsay’s film, a psychological drama entitled “Die, My Love.
After the conclusion of the saga, Lautner accepted several acting roles. These included “Grown Ups 2” from 2013 and “The Ridiculous 6” in 2015. More recently, he appeared in Netflix’s production “Home Team,” which was released in 2022.
