Team behind twisty drama The Tourist are bringing a new thriller to Channel 4
Channel 4 has announced a new thriller series from the producers of The Tourist and Fleabag.
As a gamer, I’m excited about diving into the six-episode journey titled Maya. In this narrative, I find myself stepping into the shoes of Anna, a mother, who along with her teenage daughter Maya, is compelled to abandon our urban life in London and settle in a quaint countryside town. Under new personas, we embark on an exciting new chapter together.
In their attempt to acclimate to their fresh starts, the duo are persistently troubled by remnants of their troubled history and an ominous duo of assassins who stir feelings of apprehension as they pursue the vanished mother and child.
The story progresses with Anna and Maya exploring this unfamiliar environment. The question lingers: Will the system offer them security, can they find true safety, or will they need to resort to uncommon measures for their own protection?
As stated by Radio Times, Maya is expected to carry a witty yet eerie mood, delving into topics such as self-identity, inappropriate male conduct, and the extreme measures taken by parents to safeguard their children.
Daisy Haggard, known for her role in “Breeders,” is not only the creator but also the lead actress (playing Anna). The production companies behind hit shows like “The Tourist” and “Fleabag,” Two Brothers, are involved in bringing this project to life.
More information about who else is involved in the production of “Maya” and its release date has yet to be revealed publicly at this stage.
Haggard expressed his excitement in a statement about introducing the world to Maya, a project he’s been nurturing for quite some time. He feels incredibly lucky to be able to bring these types of stories into focus, and he can hardly wait to embark on this adventure with the daring and dynamic Channel 4.
As a passionate admirer, I’d like to share my excitement over Ollie Madden’s words about Daisy’s Maya pilot script. He found it hilarious, thanks to its distinctly British perspective on parenthood and the peculiarities of witness protection programs. At the same time, it kept us hooked with its unapologetic, edge-of-the-seat thriller narrative.
We absolutely adore Daisy and the exceptional group at Two Brothers, and we’re eagerly anticipating how they bring this captivating series to fruition.
Maya will air on Channel 4.
