Taylor Swift’s ex Matty Healy threatens to ‘slap’ Azealia Banks in heated exchange

Taylor Swift's ex Matty Healy threatens to 'slap' Azealia Banks in heated exchange

As a music connoisseur with decades of experience under my belt, I find myself deeply amused by the latest feud between Azealia Banks and Matt Healy. While I’ve never been one to shy away from a good tussle over musical tastes, this particular spat seems to have more to do with personal attacks than genuine differences in opinion.

On Tuesday, Matty Healy and Azealia Banks continued their heated exchange on platform X, showcasing their proficiency in waging intense social media disputes.

The events took a turn as Banks expressed criticism towards Charli XCX, saying “Charli was once incredibly attractive. I find that frustrating.

In a sharply worded retort, Healy – bandmate of George Daniel, who is engaged to Charli – shot back with a biting comment: “It seems your targets are consistently women who are culturally impactful, appealing, provocative, and kind. I suspect it’s because you feel inadequate due to your immense talent but everything else about you falls short. Just spit some rhymes, bro.

After Banks compared Healy to Frankenstein, things escalated quickly.

In a more refined and less aggressive manner, we could say that Taylor Swift’s former partner originally bragged about giving Banks a strong slap, making an extravagant statement: “I’ll slap you so hard that I might set a Guinness World Record for the highest a rat has ever jumped from the head of a disrespectful woman wearing a wig.

Acknowledging the unacceptable tone of his reaction, Healy swiftly retracted his words, expressing remorse: ‘Of course I wouldn’t dream of threatening a woman like that! I’m truly sorry. It’s just that your continuous harsh comments about my friends and family are really painful. They make me feel quite defensive.’

He subsequently deleted the threatening tweet, acknowledging it ‘was not cool even if I was angry.’

This recent conflict is a continuation of their past disagreement, which started when Healy first reacted to Banks’ comments about Charli XCX’s SNL appearance earlier in the month.

When Banks criticized Charli for her supposedly casual understanding of Ciara’s 1, 2 Step, Healy countered with: “You’re talking, you insufferable buffoon. It’s quite remarkable to be more irritating than I am.

Back in May 2023, fans may remember the passionate outburst by Azealia Banks directed at Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend.

During this period, Swift and Healy became romantically involved, not long after her breakup with Joe Alwyn.

Taylor and Matty were seen holding hands and kissing in New York City.

Although they had an apparent connection, complete with public appearances, their romance didn’t last long. It ended after approximately a month around June 2023.

It seems that Azealia’s criticism of Healy may have been provoked by the latter’s apparently racially insensitive remarks regarding rapper Ice Spice, which he made during his interview on The Adam Friedland Podcast.

Bank’s post featured a picture of Healy performing, with his arms spread out and a caption that alluded to his on-stage apology following his remarks about Ice Spice. In the text exchange, Ice Spice was seen criticizing him.

She expressed, ‘Does Matt Healy realize that people don’t genuinely believe The 1975 creates quality music,’ even though their last four albums have charted in the top 10 on the Billboard 200, ‘and that he’s seen as a pretentious figure with a band name that is just a cliche and holds no significance, while a young woman who has nothing to do with him or his music is gaining more recognition and wealth than him,’ she wrote, implying a comparison to Ice Spice, aged 23.

In my professional opinion, I can confidently say that today’s entertainment landscape is recognizing and appreciating the unique talents of black women in the music industry, particularly in female rap. This shift isn’t just about aesthetics or trends; it’s a reflection of the growing market demand for authentic voices and diverse perspectives. The rise of these exceptional artists is not only enriching our culture but also driving significant business growth in this sector.

She commented, “He appears incredibly frail, with a gaunt face and seemingly drug dependent. It’s quite evident when observing him.

She suggested Healy was doing the ‘small white opinionated male musician thing,’ but claimed only the musician Ariel Pink — who attended a pro-Trump rally in Washington, D.C., before the January 6 insurrection — could get away with it.

Additionally, she asserted that The 1975’s music bears a resemblance to The Academy Is… from the 2000s and Death From Above 1979.

Nevertheless, she stated that the Healy band wouldn’t likely attain such artistic acclaim as they were not considered a “star” or particularly skilled in what she perceived as the uninspiring indie trend of the mid-2000s championed by Pitchfork.

She concluded the post by praising Ice Spice as having ‘MILES more originality than you will ever.’

She remarked dismissively, “The 1975 seems to be under the radar, sweetheart.” Later, she asserted that only those who fit the description of ‘fat emo teenagers’ would find appeal in Healy’s music.

In a second text post, she simply wrote, ‘Matt Healy is one shared needle away from tetanus.’

Afterward, banks added an empty screen on her Instagram Stories, accompanied by an audio clip where she referred to herself as a passionate and knowledgeable music enthusiast.

Initially, upon learning about The 1975, she found their name to be overused and cheesy, and expected their music to be fabricated garbage that matched her sentiments towards many boy bands from the late 2000s and early 2010s.

She ended up stating that since she was unfamiliar with the band’s music, it seemed less appealing and not widely recognized.

As a devoted supporter, I’d rephrase it this way: I overheard the bank making disparaging remarks about Healy, focusing on his physical appearance. She suggested he should incorporate more vegetables into his diet and take a bath to clean his hair. In conclusion, she labeled him as a phony imitation of Pete Doherty.

The same audio post also included a text post unrelated to her narration.

212 rapper made disrespectful, sexually explicit comments about Taylor Swift and her private areas, also labeled Healy as a complete “incel” and stated that he was unworthy of her affections.

Later on, she proposed an idea that Swift might consider dating James Mercer, the frontman and composer of the well-known indie rock band The Shins. This suggestion appears to have been made because Banks is a fan of his music, and also because The Shins and The 1975, both being indie rock bands, share a similar genre.

Banks’ remarks mirror the views of numerous Swift supporters, who have zeroed in on controversial comments Healy has made more recently.

Despite facing criticism initially, Healy’s comments on The Adam Friedland Show in February gained renewed focus following his relationship with Swift and frequent appearances at her Eras Tour shows.

During his appearance, Healy claimed he tried to message the rapper Ice Spice on Instagram.

With comedian Nick Mullen and his fellow host, Friedland, Healy seemed to mix up her ancestry by calling her Inuit and Chinese, mimicking and satirizing the typical accents associated with those cultures.

The podcast episode was subsequently removed from Spotify and Apple Music, due to the presence of inappropriate material.
